wow really if someone wants to ask question regardless if there a few threads on it who cares. I use synthetic, don't know if its better but in our cold canadian weather i feel the truck starts better.

as for all the haters out there no need to be rude or sarcastic this dude is just trying to get some answers, we all know the forum search engine is not very good to find stuff.

For my '10 2.7, the service managers at both dealerships in town says dyno for my truck @ 5000 miles ... that's good enough for me.

    Synthetic changed every 5 K.
Syn protects better while it is in there, worth the extra $30 per oil change to have the best in a 30K truck.
Those who say conventional protects the same are ignoring scientific facts, and are missing out on cheap insurance for your engine.

I'm doing the Toyota care thing so just conventional for now. Once that runs out and I start doing my own changes I'll probably switch to synthetic.

+1. The post police kind of chaffe my butt as well. For example I feel like I know a fair amount about Newton's Laws of Motion and there are tons and tons of texts in the library and on the net. But it is still great to see new people seeking any type of knowledge that could benefit them. The topics of the alphabet and arithmetic has been brought up millions of times before, but I am certainly happy to see new Kindergartners asking questions on that every year.

Toyota put synthetic as a paper requirement for 2012+ 4-cyl to eck out an extra 1-2 mpg in EPA testing. It contributes to better CAFE numbers and allows Toyota to advertise as the most fuel efficient pickup sold in the US. Since the engine is the same as 2005-2011, there's no harm in using conventional oil.

In Ontario, Canada, it won't matter what oil you use, because road salt will turn your truck into a rust bucket long before any symptoms of engine wear show up with either oil.

You can attempt (and likely succeed) with longer oil change intervals by sending your use oil to Blackstone for analysis. Note: the filter should still be replaced every 6 mo. (i.e. replace filter, top up oil to replenish the 1/2 quart or so lost with the filter).

i used to swear by amsoil... i ran it in my 2002 acura rsx, 2005 acura rsx type s, 2008 acura TL type s, i also ran it in my 2007 honda cbr 600rr. i have none of those vehicles to this day. now i have a 2003 acura CL as a daily driver, a 2011 Honda fury, and the 2013 taco. the taco doesnt have enough miles on it yet for an oil change, but i have free oil changes for 2 years/25 miles through toyota. so i have about 2 years to think about switching to synthetic with the truck. the 2003 acura cl, im the 3rd owner, i put conventional oil in it every 5k miles, its got 111,000 miles on it, bought it 2 years ago with 86k miles. i dont care too much for as i pretty much use it as a beater/daily driver. 2011 honda fury only had 1 oil change so far and about 2600 miles on it. maybe in the spring ill switch to synthetic.

change the oil when you are supposed to... you will be fine. ive used both. i feel like ive wasted money using synthetic in past vehicles.

what ever you use... dont use mobil 1. id use the cheapest conventional oil before using mobil 1

do some research, and have done my homework. its not even real synthetic, they use base stocks to mfg, and it burns off at a temperature way to low for anything HD / hot weather / towing / hauling

    good luck

Dino oil for me. I change mine to frequently to use syn. Keeping a clean filter is just as important as the oil in my book.
