I searched mtbr and put together a great 13 mile counterclockwise loop at wilder. I forget the names of the trails. Very scenic mix of fire roads and singletrack.

    Yes, I sold my '13 Taco. :'(
Any recommendations on where to park for Braille? Been reading all these "keep everything out of plain view in your car"-type reviews about the area lol.

Thanks man! Yeah I just replaced my old FiveTen with a new pair and they grip like duct tape on these 420 pedals.

It's less of a problem if you head that advice :)

You have a couple of choices. The side of the road or the parking lot. I prefer the side of the road. Plenty of people on the weekends.

I had a kona shonky but i actually just sold it like 2 weeks ago.

I would say just start small on things like table tops. Then move up. easier doubles are built really well to get used to it. The first double's i hit I didnt even need to pump for. I tried to pump once and completely over shot the landing.

I think the hardest part is getting over the fact that you could land short and be in big trouble. I have no problem hitting tables.

I would say to hit a pump track too if its possible, it will definitely help both regular mountain biking and dirt jumping

One last thing DONT ride when its WET. first of all it can destroy the jumps just like any other trail and second it can end badly. It was moist out one day my friend went and he lost too much speed going up the jump and cased the landing and broke his collar bone. It can be super sketchy

The only place i know of doesnt have table tops, they just range from small to big doubles.

Ill look into pump tracks, dont think there are any round here either:eek: (Houston sucks for MTB....)

No plans on riding in the wet lol. Id also prefer my collar bone in one piece :p

    Thanks for the advice :)

What do you think about this bike?

you should be fine with small doubles.

that bike looks good, i did notice it was a 24" wheel, idk if thats what you were looking for. NS is supposed to be pretty good. Ive never ridden one but my friend has one he liked. Hes selling a manitou circus fork and NS traffic frame for 200 each if you might be interested. hes also selling an i9 dh wheelset but those are like more than the bike it self haha

i would check pinkbike people are always selling their DJ bikes on there for good prices. I think other friend bought a cannondale chase dj for like 300 a little over a year ago

Thanks for the heads up Ian! My friends up there also told me today the best is to park on the road sides.

Well even though the weather today was super gloomy and looked like it was ready to piss down at any minute, my buddy and I decided EFF it and take a late afternoon run today. We chose the Horse Camp Trail @ Montana De Oro. I was going to snap pics during the ride but it was so ugly and dark it wouldn't have been anything to look at lol. Couldn't have timed it any better. It started to rain at the end of our descent.

The new 35er bar and XT brakeset definitely changed the bike---I should have changed the brakes a LONG time ago. Zero fade and I was trying to make them fade lol.

After bombing the hero dirt, I think the old Fox Float RL Evolution rear shock that came with the bike needs to be rebuilt(ie: "Push'd") or replaced with something updated with Kashima. Not much I can do to "tune" it as there is only a rebound adjustment. I played with the adjustment but still got that "stick in the mud" feeling after clearing even smaller jumps....or maybe I've gotten used to riding too much VPP lately? :D

    Obligatory boring post run pic:

If you prefer riding clipless like myself, wearing these FiveTen Freeriders are the closest thing you'll get to that same "locked in" feeling. These are the 2nd pair of FiveTens I've owned, and they are worth every penny. Finally got to pedal on the Azonic 420's today with these shoes---sticky!!

Rained a bit here today. Not so much up near Braille. There'll be light rain through the morning tomorrow and rain forecast for the weekend but more than likely, won't happen. Should be some nice riding over the weekend.

Maybe it's your trail knowledge that sucks. There are plenty of places to ride around here of all kinds. It isn't epic like Rocky Mountains or Moab but far from sucking. Try the end of the trails at Terry Hershey Park east of Wilcrest along Buffalo Bayou for your dirt jumping pleasure. There are all kinds of jumps and pumps out there. There are many more of those kind of places around town too, gotta know where to look and who to ask. :D

That very well maybe what it is! and i wasnt saying that the trails sucked, just the selection, imo.

Terry hershey is where i usually ride and i believe ive ridden most of it. I do know of the 'bowl', Ive been there a few times before as thats where the trail ends as you say, and 29ers didnt work very well

The only trails I know of are Cypress Woods, Terry Hershey Park(Anthills), Jack Brooks, and Memorial. The only DJ place I know of is the bowl at the Anthills. If you know of any more, Id love to know and eat my words!

Most of the ones I've seen aren't on any of the mt bike trails above. They are just randomly spread around off to the side in small patches of woods I've past up doing other things. Other than some BMX place in Alvin, Pearland or Clear Lake area that popped up recently not sure of any maintained areas to send ya to. I've seen bowl type places several places but don't ride them so I haven't made mental notes of them all. Lemme think about it a minute................
