Water heaters is one. Another is aircraft. The aircraft company i worked for closed the doors here a few years back and moved alot of the production jobs to mexico to save money. Their workmanship was so bad the faa inspectors got an eye opener when a composite wing delaminated in mid flight. I'm sure some things are built well down there... i just haven't seen or heard of any.

Mine is made in old Mexico, and is very well made ,it's a SR5 base , but it has all the pre-wire and the bigger alternator which made it easier when I added the tow package, fogs, cruise control.

    Build thread coming soon!
'12 DCSB Sport built in Texas. Build quality (from a bodyman's perspective) is so-so. Compared to other Toyotas I've worked on, my truck is 75% of what it could have been.
1- Left fender 1/4" higher than driver door at top bodyline.
2- Driver door needs more force to close than the other 3, or it bounces open to the first "click"
3- While the cab was rolling down the assembly line (probably getting the dash installed) something sprayed it on both sides & etched the paint. Front doors don't have it, but back doors & cab corners do. I power polished it when I first took delivery but it came back within a couple weeks. The paint was only 6 weeks old, so that may be why.
4- Dented on right side of hood on the soft bodyline ahead of the scoop. Probably from shipping.
5- Right front wheel flare seal (grey rubber molding) has been gorped with adhesive that has bled out slightly.

With all that said, none of that bothers me and love this truck to death. Best I've owned! All my trucks before this were a compromise with people capacity or ride quality, but this one has it all. I special ordered it and will keep it forever!

I have a 2012 DCSB OR assembled in Texas. I have had one major issue with it but I'm not sure if this was a result from a previous accident that happened on the highway or not. I got side-swiped by a semi truck going 55 mph and the whole passenger side needed to be replaced on my brand new truck. Less than a month later my power steering pump failed and had to be replaced. Before the accident no issues. No issues since the power steering pump was replaced and I have almost 30,000 miles on my 2012.

I do most of my business in mexico in the automotive/heavy equipment manufacturing industry. Ive never been to a toyota plant so i cant speak for toyota but I can say the all the other manufacturers (Chrysler, Caterpillar and others) and their sub-contractors operate first class facilities here in MX. Generally speaking the equipment in the shops is much newer. The shops are more efficiently planed out from the get-go and many people in top management are foreign. Not that a Mexican cant do the job but the point being is that all the facilities are designed and operated according to stringent requirements and follow the same exact rules across the board..

I had some folks come down from the US and Europe last week for a trial at an engine plant and they commented that the facility was much better than many of the facilities in the US and are right up there with the most modern and efficient in the world.

Funny that you say that. The other day I went out and checked mine after reading about this. Guess what? Mine were tight.

    Built in Texas...December 2012.
