Roof Rack, Bed Extender or Toolbox?

Which one do ya'll have or recommend? I surf and I have a longboard so I'm not too excited about the toolbox, but what do you guys think?

 

Surfboards are probably best on a roof rack, or a rack that is mounted above the bed. That would be the most aerodynamic solution.

Well your all set then. That's probably what i would run as well. But with a tonneu cover so I could store stuff underneath.

 

I think roof racks look like caca. No offense to anyone. Just my opinion. I'd go for what tmat has and get a box if has some clearance under it so the front of your board can slip in.

 

They are good for different things...You got the soft rack for your long stick- What are you looking to get out of adding any of these??
A bed extender will let you lay the board down a bit flatter and make the little cargo well inside the tailgate when the tailgate is closed. A box gives you the extra cargo space but won't help the board at all. A roof rack will kill your mpgs if you load stuff up there alot...SO...What are you trying to carry??

 

I'm just confused.

For what purpose?

So why have it as an option?

I like all three.

 

Well I probably should have mentioned that I have a regular cab. So there is absolutely no room in there. I go shooting and there is a CA law stating you cannot have the gun and the ammo in the same space. So I figure I put the ammo in the cab, and the gun....in a toolbox? or in the bed extender? or on the roof rack? I am also planning on camping a lot this summer. There you go

 

its not to hard to jsut have the board stick out the back alittle thats what i always do if i got one in the back

 

As far as gun security is concerned I would go with the toolbox. Things are to easy to forget (out of sight out of mind).

You might want to look into a camper shell. Security plus extra room to keep your camping gear and you dry if need be. You could also keep the same setup you have for hauling your board, just open the back lid or pull it off.

 

the roof rack would be best, and they look rad on the tacoma!

 

I have a toolbox and a Thule bed rack. It works great, I haul 2 kayaks and a lot of gear to the beach. I think with a regular cab that would work the best. Check out my pics in my gallery. I think there may be a good pic of my set up.

 

Undercover makes a box called the Swing Case- Fits inside the bed wall fromt he tailgate to the wheel well. Install that and a roll tonneau and you'd have lockable storage that you could roll up and would be out of the way for your board. Plus you'd have hte extra room for stuff??

Roof rack isn't really flexible for storage-Gotta use one of those huge turtle shell things and I personally don't like tool boxes- You also said you weren't excited about it.

I just up'd the coin for the thule racks that telescope up over cab for kayaks/longboards/ladders/wood/pipes/etc.

They have adapters that fit our bed rails. Upon first use wondering how people can use them at bed height. When telescoping down, the poles hit the inside of the bed. I only wanted them for cabover use so I'm OK with that but if you need bedrail height then I'd say use factory cross bars with attachments.

 

I have the Thule racks and just cut a little off the bottom and cut in new slots to get them the height I wanted. They lock in and can be taken off in about 30 seconds. I think the whole system works great. The rack and adapters were $600.00 I do like the fiberglass cap and racks, I've seen a few like that and that is a sweet set up also.

Gun on the roof rack...that would be interesting to see going down the road. Mind you im thinking 38 special...haha
