You are currently looking at the most beat to shit tacoma, I have ever seen. This is what the truck looked like when I bought it for $800.

    This 1999 is a 2.7l 4cyl 5speed manual 4x4.

With the help of my (someday possible future) father-in-law, I have (almost) fully RUSTored this truck to its original condition. Being a new TW member, I'll post a little bit at a time, that will show my build. This truck is still about 50 hours away from being finished. Enjoy!

Anyone else have rust problems on their 1st gen Tacoma frame? I found out about a silent recall where Toyota will actually buy your truck back for 1.5x's the Excellent value, if the frame fails to pass inspection.

There is absolutely no way that my frame would have passed, and I really didn't want to give the truck up (I had too much time invested in the project by the time I found out about the recall) so I just fixed the rust holes myself.

Pulled out probably about 10lbs of dirt out of the frame

It's been quite a while since I've posted anything.. I've been trying to concentrate on getting my truck finished more than trying to show it off.

Good News: I got it started for the first time!
Question: What RPM should your 1999 2.7l 5speed idle at? Mine is currently at about 1.5k and it sounds a little too wound up

    Thanks!

Rotella detergent to clean out my rebuilt engine. Only going to run that through for a very short time.

    Minor but cool "fab" work

I was missing an essential piece for my mirror to hang from the headboard mount, so I made my own.

I was missing a beveled washer-spacer for my idler pulley and so I also made that too. Worked perfect!

Did you glass bead the engine yourself or did you have a shop do it?

I had a shop do it. Although I've never messed with engines before, I wish I would have done it myself...

QUESTION: How much fluid does my rear differential hold? (1999 Tacoma 2.7 4x4) I have read that it takes 3qts of 75-90 but it will only hold 2qts before it starts to drip out of the fill hole?
