On my last tacoma I just kept the fact that the back glass didn't latch a secret. When I got locked out I'd just reach through and open it up haha.

Oh ok nice, that's still pretty close.

Duplicolor vinyl/fabric dye will be permanent on the valence.

It probably won't do well at all on the plastic fender flares.

For those clean them, sand them with 320ish grit until uniformly dull/scratched, primer then spray paint (use plastic specific paint such as Krylon fusion, etc)

    Yep.

It costs $7 and some change at your local auto parts store. I've use it before but not on plastic like this. It should hold up extremely well as it actually dyes the material instead of just cover it like regular paint.

Ha yeah I've been waiting to get called out on those. I'm still torn on those. I see a lot of people on here black them out but I kinda like where it is now. I do have some plastidip left over so maybe I'll try it out.

    Too few to list.
I've seen the video on youtube for the heatgun method which kinda melts the plastic back to it's original unfaded color.

I think it would be worth a shot on the flares. It's made for things like shift boots and the material on door panels with the padding under it and both of those are more flexible than the flares.

Thanks man! I try to build things with the "clean" look in mind. I don't want your attention to jump to one thing more than another. Everything should go together! For reference my last build:

Sorry, I loved this car. Had to show it off! And thought you might appreciate the photography :p

I really hate to leave Tacomaworld. If I don't trade I think I'll add a snorkel and a spare tire carrier onto the rear bumper.

What are you trying to trade for and who said you have to leave?

Exactly, the 98-00s rolled out of the factory looking pretty fugly. :(

The flares on an 01-04 are HDPE I believe. It's not absorbent enough for dye.

I could be wrong though. I used the dye on the plastic center console/cup holder and it's held up okay, just a couple of scratches here and there.

Yep, different plastic interior and exterior though I would think the bumper plastic would be the same material as the flares.

    It's not.

The bumper valence is much more absorbent/porous than the flares.

    Haha hey now be nice.

I wouldn't know, I'm super jealous of people with stock flares. I've been trying to find a set for so long but I think it's impossible to find them used here.
