    So you are in favor of just giving the criminal a gun in the first place? Sure the new regulations don't do anything in that case, but what about the case where felons can go to a gun show and walk off with a loaded rifle without a background check? I don't support banning weapons, but I strongly believe we should be regulating who gets to have them.

    No i completely agree with the background checks for any and all gun purchases.

    Banning them won't do any good though because it only takes them out of the hands of good people. The people who commit the crazy ass crimes have been planning them for a long time and will find a way, one way or another.

    I'll be quite surprised if any kind of ban makes it into law, and even then the SCOTUS is going to object....

    The easiest way for them to get a ban would be to put the previous ban back into effect. My problem with it is that it did nothing to stop the columbine shooting (right in the middle of the ban) or others. If they try to go further, or obama tries to ban the weapons with executive order, then I think you're right, SCOTUS will not approve.
