URD MAF Calibrator

I did hours and hours of reading and pming and I did not get a solid answer on this.. Sense my lift and bigger tires I lost some of my power and mpg and I have been looking for ways to improve both if possible. My question is if I install the URD MAF Calibrator on my 09 4.0l taco (currently stock besides a Magnaflow muffler) on the default tune that is suposta supply 15whp to a stock rig will my everyday mpg increase or will it not be effected. Thanks for the help!

If you really want your power back, either go back to stock tires or re-gear.

 

Has anyone regeared their 2nd gen 4.0l taco? what gears should i use with a 33" tire?

 

Well i just found out that regearing is way outta the question. It would be something like $1500 for that junk.. So I'm sol unless URD MAF Cal. will give back any mpg. From what i understand the only time the URD MAF Cal. effects my tuck is WOT? So I will not see any effects from this mod in normal every day driving?

my brother had a gen1 and had to put a SC on when he went to 35's

I don't think the calibrator will help you, unless you do intake and/or headers

 

I sort of had plans on doing both headers and a trd cai and then installing MAF Cal after those mods thinking the modifications combined with the cal. would give me a nice mix of power and mpg.

 

The only way to really gain power is forced induction. Nothing else is going to be worth the money

 

Well for a fraction of the price of forced induction I could regear, do an entire aftermarket exhaust from head back, cai, maf tune and probably be pretty happy with that but I guess more then anything I'm just tryin to gain any mpg's I can at the lowest cost to do so. Thats why I have been trying to find out if the URD Maf Cal. will have any effect on simple every day driving. Thanks for the ideas and keep em comin!

I have TRD intake/exhaust, URD y-pipe, URD MAF, and Doug thorley headers. As someone stated already, for such little power gains it may not be worth it. With all those mods and a tune i am turning 215 RWHP and im driving a dub cab on 33's as well.

If i could do it again i would probably still do all the exhaust because i love it, but i would have gotten the APR X-1 instead of the MAF..... and i would get supercharged too.

 

What kind of MPG are you getting with that setup?

the urd maf cal will help with the mpg, but your going to have to tune it a little to get the best results. which means buying a few more things to get it tuned right.

 

even when the truck is in closed loop i should still see an mpg improvement with that urd?

 

you will see a little gain. the maf cal is more for a more smooth power band and better mpg really. not really for more hp. you may gain some just because your afr's are not in a good spec in a given rpm, so either making it more rich or more lean, is where youll get some power.

 

I have a 1st gen. I thought about the urd maf as well. What accessories are needed to properly tune it? As long as this product will not hurt my mpg I would like to look into it. I have the 3.4L. I have wanted to get into the computer aspect of performance, is this a good product to start with? I have a CAI headers and a custom exhaust (cut the cats out). I built my truck to get good highway gas mileage and it gets around 25. Would this help at all if I learned how to properly tune it. Any help would be apreciated. Also any other suggestions for other performance chips would also be helpful.
