Got a little grinding done while my buddy (eltacocaliente) was working on the other side. Should have the frame rails smooth after tomorrow.




I've now learned that under the right condition grinding is relaxing, just make sure you have ear plugs and spark protection. Still wish I had a set of torches or a plasma.

Started grinding down the wheel studs for the disc swap


No pics but tore down the tcase, found some nice mud colored gear oil, everything looked ok though.


Also got some casters to make something out of. Picking up my Dana 60 housing tomorrow.

 

what made you change your mind to a 60?

 

Looked at what I was goin to put into the 44 and then compared it to the 60 and the difference very little. That and I wanted the piece of mind while beating on this thing, the next wink link will be the cases but those only become an issue when you wheel hardcore

Got bored and finally fixed my throttle bracket, should have taken a before pic but trust me it was not intended to be mounted the way it was.

Got the trans out, clutch and flywheel had def seen better days. Notice the replacement grade 5 flywheel bolt


Pretty sure that grass isn't part of the required parts for install

That one looks ok, if I find any damage ill prob take one off your hands. I'm def goin to have to have a new flywheel, have heat cranks all in the thing. I might bring it up there to carquest and see if Adam might could turn it. Still need to pickup that leaf center pin I ordered.

what did you do with your Rough country lift

 

Traded to a buddy of mine, it was trailmaster btw. Picked up some 4.10 gears today for free

 

Had to see what it will look like, granted the axle will never go that high until its linked.

 

Worked on my gauge cluster a lil today. Wanted to maintain the factory fuel gauge, check engine light, and 4wd light. Still has a little bit of work but you get the picture. Reason for no speedo is due to it will be trail on and it does measure in feet per min

 

Killer build. Once you play with 60 parts you'll laugh at 44 parts. Good move right there. Plus, the 60 is much easier to assemble and dis assemble with the bolt on king pins on the knuckle vs the way the 44 is. Not that you'll ever have to mess with it again once you install it.

You'd have possibly blown that 44 with those boggers anyway. You won't hurt that 60 with it's 35 spline axles. You won't hurt that 14 bolt either. I'm jealous of your discs and boggers. I need new tires but they're so freakin expensive. I'd like some 38's next time around, these are 37's.

Your man axles make me feel comfortable showing off my Chevy here... Scored the 60 back in 94 for $200 missing knuckle out on one side, had to get the parts from Boyce since salvage yards around here don't really have 60 parts, and the 14 bolt for $125. 4.10 gears. Trans and TC are SM465 & NP205. All the 1/2 ton garbage was finally out of my life for good. Going strong as ever today.

This truck has pulled more people out than I can count. Even pulled a Bronco's rear bumper right off after dragging him down the huge ditch sideways for about 100ft, dude didn't care, he was glad to be unstuck. He was a friend and stuck good. My other friend made him kiss my 60 hub, which he gladly did, on his hands and knees. I had a 4wheel pop up camper on at that time. So see, people will actually get on their knees and kiss Dana 60 hubs. haha

Forced my self to get out in the shop a little. Tacked the spring hanger in to get an idea of things.

Think I'm gonna have a little trimming to do


Need to go pick up some square tubing to extend the rails a bit. Anybody have advice on how far in I should put the new rails in?


Spring hanger location, going to gusset the outside to the frame rail and plate the bottom and inside. Overkill? Not enough? Will 3/16ths be enough?


Very rough indication of the wheelbase stretch, bout 12.5 inches. Final wheelbase is kinda looking to be about 115ish.

 

What does 3 sawsall blades and 1/2 a grinding disc get you. A 95% shaved 14 bolt. :Flipoff2:



Still gonna grind a little more off and try to smooth the bottom a lil bit. Want it to be smooth as silk cause I'm gonna drag it all over the place

 

Got the disc brakes on

Also got one ruf pack done, got the wrong center pin for the other one.

 

Well cut my spring hanger in half....

Had to add an inch to match the axle

Little bit of cutting and grinding and I finally have the spring hanger mocked up in place.


Shackle mounts will be interesting, it'll be a couple weeks the that gets tackled.
