Location of your oil filter!!! Awesome

I looked at the new tacoma with the 4.0L and the oil filter is on top of the motor. How hard is that to change? LOL i have a 01 where it is under the block and the new one has to be soooo easy to change since its right there when you pop the hood. Another reason to want a 2nd gen. just thought i would share that.

 

just make sure you have some hose to go on the nipple under the filter or it will over flow and spill oil all over the place.

 

oil changes on the 05 and up tacomas with the 4.0 are the easiest oil changes i have ever seen. they arent bad on the 3.4.......but the 4.0 is way easier.

 

That or you can use a 16 oz Solo cup to catch the spill out from the oil filter.

has anyone found an easy route to change that dang filter on the first gen v6? i've tried it several different ways, all were a pain and very messy!

 

also wondering... never gotten it off without ending up having to take the skids off to clean em

 

to me, its not that they are hard, just more messy than anything. i let all my oil drain first, then i'll usually take the filter off thru the wheel well. you can grab it easier there.

nah...after all the oil drains out, only a little will come from the filter, so when i remove the filter, i tend to flip it on over pretty quick so it doesnt run out all over the place. only a lil oil from the filter gets on my front diff.

yea I did the tube for the oil catch the first time... not after though.. If you drain first there's almost nothing in the filter when you take it off. I also use K&N filters with that awesome 1" socket welded on top... makes an easy change laughably easy.

 

That filter location is awesome, but UPSIDE DOWN???? wtf guys.... LoL (you knew someone had to complain about this) I'm tired of wasting half a roll of paper towels soaking up the oil after the filter emptys into that damn thing. I think I'm gonna start grabbing some diapers (pig mats) from work for this job!

 

Like I said in the previous... drain the pan first and let it sit for a few min... there will be almost nothing in the filter. If you flip it fairly quick you *might* get a couple of drops that fall out...

 

yes anything that drips goes in that angled catch basin thru the drain hole into a small plastic bottle or solo cup as another has suggested. I do take a couple of lint free towels & wipe it clean as Chris suggested in his super DIY oil change thread

 

Krazie J told me that he helped a buddy change a 1st Gen once. Said he suspended the truck upside down and let it drain out the top... after taking off both tail lights and removing the transmission, of course.
