After a 10 yr hiatus I am pleased to be back behind the wheel of tacoma again! Recently purchased a 2002 Tacoma double cab 3.4L after getting a brand new frame and all the fixings underneath. Decided best bet would be to replace all the shocks to have everything brand spanking new.
My question is can I install the TRD shocks/struts in the front without any issues? The local dealership parts dept didnt seem to sure and was advising me to go OEM.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Yes, but renting a spring compressor will help you a lot. I did it to my 98.

Thanks for your prompt reply. Anyone know if Bilstein has complete assemblies for sale for an easy install?

Rather than getting Toyota / Bilsteins, go a step further and buy the true Bilstein struts and shocks, either 4600s or 5100s. You will have much better ride, handling and life out the real Bilsteins.

I had a local garage change all four shock/struts for $50, I supplied the shocks, they swapped them. Either have a compressor or take them some place.

^ +1 on the 5100 Bilsteins. My trucks ride is SO MUCH better because of them!

Just did 5100's up front (and OME 880 coils). Borrowed a coil spring compressor (McPherson strut type) from O'Reilly's and it worked great. This is an easy install with pretty basic tools, so you can save some money. Auto Zone also loans out the spring compressor and other automotive tools like O'Reillys.

what's the main difference between the Toyota Bilstein and the Bilstein 4600? I was fine with the OEM ride when I first got the truck but 10 years later and 130k I need new rear leafs and might as well consider shocks.

do the front springs really need replace or they should be fine?

a lift would be nice but I can't justify the purchase since I do not really offroad. so stock replacements are my choice for now
