I just replaced the front driver side hub and wheel bearing. It is a koyo bearing. It has already gone bad in literally 20 Miles! this is the second time I have changed that bearing (1st time changing hub) in like 3 months! What is going on?

The first time I replaced it, I had it pressed at a shop that screwed up the hub with a chissel to get the bearing off, causing the bearing to get chewed up after a couple months. So I took it off, and they got me a new hub and I got another bearing on warranty. Put the thing back on, and literally 20 miles it started humming again. I know the ball joint is bad too? Could that be the root problem?

FYI, I do have a 2 inch spacer in the front. Leveling kit. Also 265/75/16's a step up from factory size.

Over sensitive hearing :notsure: A bad ball joint may aid in failure but not expedite it to 20 miles.

x2. I mean a chisel isn't exactly the ideal way to remove a wheel bearing...

No, obviously I wouldn't take the bearing back to the same place. Napa Machine shop pressed the new bearing to the new hub. I think something had to go wrong in the pressing process.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
New bearings had to be tighten to spec. Also packed with grease. It seems many people don't do this and both steps if missed will shorten the life of bearings.
During pressing its easy to crush plastic cages in those bearings. That will make bearing immediately unusable.

I posed that question to the Napa machine shop, because that is what I was thinking as well. Of course they are incapable of doing anything wrong.

I'm not that familiar with the set up on the Tacoma front wheel bearings but when available I just buy the factory assembled assembled hub. Just did the daughter Nissan Quest, Timken, not going to heap out for her and the grandsons, $125 for the assembly, simple remove and replace, less worries about it being wrong, no 10 mile one way trip to the machine shop. Quick turn around. Might be worth checking into.
