on the note of UCA's has anyone ever heard anything about the desert product uca's? wheelers offers them and look a lot beefier than the light racing ones and still a bit cheaper ($$$ wise) than with the TC UCA's... input?

Either the lugnuts were overtorqued or the studs were corroded. Given the recent tire rotation, it was likely the former.

Are your lugnuts open-ended or close-ended? Open-ended is more likely to rust.

^AFAIK Toyota uses close-ended lug nuts. However, open-ended lug nuts are often thrown in as freebies when you buy aftermarket wheels.

Example of open-ended lug nut (the stud pokes through the lug nut):

    Examples of close-ended lug nut:

That short? You had steel rims stock?
My stock acorn lug nuts that came with the stock steel rims are that short. I use a slightly longer one for the aftermarket aluminum rims I run(XDs, moto metals, Mickey Thompsons, Welds). For the stock aluminum rims(tundras, FZJ80s, snowflakes), I use the shank lug nuts.

If youre using that short lug nut, check if the stud is longer than what can thread on. Check the cap of the lug nut to see if it was pushed out. I read you didnt have a problem in 6-8 months, but those lug nuts may be a problem.

Its more likely the person who rotated your tires though. Didnt tighten em good or over tightened and stripped em.

^2nd gen studs are pretty short. The lug nuts I use with my Konig aluminum wheels are also that small, and they don't bottom out.

OK, so that makes rusted wheel studs less likely.

Most imports are gonna have closed end lug nuts. Early Datsuns had open ended ones. All toyotas with factory ones were closed ended from since I could remember and from what ive seen.
Its mostly American products. Too cheap too afford the extra metal.
Most American cars and the trucks have open ended ones.

Most likely whomever rotated your tires either stripped some of all of the nuts/studs or failed to tighten/torque them. Having been a mechanic for years I'm always leery about who else I let work on my vehicles.

I didnt see this one earlier(ninja edit?) but yeah, I forgot how short these studs were. Was just putting that out for a possibility and information that can be used ion later life. A tire falling off on you is no fun. Happened to me too but spit out my axle shaft and drum at the same time.

^^^ho sheet...that had my stomach hurting from laughter. I know, not funny, but in some sick twisted way I found that funny.
Kinda reminds me of a time back in high school, two brothers near my age owned Vettes. One of em had a 02 z06 and someone loosened their lug nuts one night at the track. Good thing they felt it before it was too late.

Anyways, what did I do to my Tacoma today? Nothing. What am I going to do today? Change my battery to a new Interstate that ive had in my other truck. What eklse am I going to do to it today? Have fun driving it down to the beach. yessir

Connected my backup cam (aftermarket cam in an oem handle) and 2013 dash panel in my 2006. Also ran wire for rear lighting coming soon and Pin switch for the tailgate to go to my alarm.

Thieves don't overtorque your lugnuts and strip the threads. at the shop.

Did you check the lug torque on your other three wheels?
