tail light tint?

anybody used window tint to tint there tail lights if so? have you tried to remove it and how would u remove it?

 

Its easy to apply if you dont do it over the reverse part and is easy to remove and it depends on the tint if it leaves residue behind. There is special tint made for tinting tail lights and isnt just ordinary tint

 

but i have seen it done with window tint i just would like to know how to remove it

 

I wouldn't put tint film on any of my stuff.

But I would think that it could be done similar to removing it from
a glass window, using a fabric steamer.

you may need to pay more attention to heat...
because of the tail light's plastic lens...
but otherwise... I'd think it would work

Go to a hobby shop or order spray on tint online. I bet they sell it at pep boys by now too. The stuff is getting really popular. Comes in an aerosol can. Follow the directions its a piece of cake to do. Havent tried removing it yet but Im sure its not too hard.

I'd post a pic but Boris's rig looks quite identical to mine...color, shell, and taillights in all haha. but yeah it's a really easy way to do your taillights on your own and its cheap. just do it the right way and you won't have to buy another set and do it again

 

I think OP is more worried about getting the tint OFF of his tail lights. As tinting your tail lights is really stupid.

 

well i as worried that if i was to put it on there and not like it i couldnt get it off, but i finally broke down to day and bought a can of nite shades and did it, can out nice and i like it, although i messed up the third breaklight on the cab and found that non acatone fingernail polish remover will remove it, but it will eat through your lense so light and it will take some wet sanding if you use fingernail polish remover

 

Not sure about window tint, my son used the vinal they use on signs and did his tails on his Tc. The vinal is the same stuff that Lamin-x is made of.

I took my tails from 09 to a body shop and had them sprayed, they are "perfect", you would not know they were tinted unless I was parked next to another Taco.
Cost was about $55.00 and took one day.

There is the right way and a wrong way to tint tails, I'm 57 years, I'm not going to black out my tails.
This is how I did mine, unless you have the new style tails, you would never know these were tinted. My goal was to soften the "clear" portion so they didn't look so ricer.

Things like illegal tint on windshields and tinting headlights and tail lights are no longer an opinion of taste when they hinder the function of a safety feature on a few thousand pound vehicle capable of great speeds. Be safe and functional, not "cool looking".

 

Soooo nothing you have done falls in to your "function>looks" rule? Lifted, over size tires exhaust changes, your mud flaps follow the law 100%, check it at the door.

 

Tail lights are different, their sole purpose is for other people. Sure maybe you don't care if people hit YOU, but don't you care about the other people?

I'm telling you if someone hits you with your tinted tail lights there will be/should be a lawsuit. Even if it's their fault they are going to have a decent claim that they didn't have enough time to react.

 

Taillight tint is great if you want to confuse other drivers. Ever come up fast on someone with tinted tails in the dark? Depending on how dark they are, you can't see them u til you're close. Mix in adverse weather conditions, and you've got a recipe for clusterf**k.

Please don't tint your tails. Doesn't even look good, bro.

 

I agree with you about the above but I can't help but notice your wide tires with no mud flaps.

If I'm behind you in the snow, rain, or if there's gravel on the road... I'm not appreciating your lack of awareness of those behind you either.

 

Oh I'm perfectly aware and I'm also perfectly legal. End of story. Besides, just a minor difference between a rock and a 4,000 lb impact. If all these guys with tinted tails want to mark off 1000' in foggy, rainy, dark weather and they are just as visible as non tinted then there is no issue. I'd be willing to bet the OP will find you can't even see him at 1000' and that makes it illegal.

 

I hear you about the tail tint. But where I come from, driving up or down winter mountain passes and the truck in front of you is rooster tailing all sorts of stuff off the road because they have large tires and no mud flaps is also a head shaker.
