Looking at tires right now. I will be staying stock with 265/70R16s. I really like the BFG ATs, and I've owned them before, but they only come in LT sizes, not the factory P rated size. Since I don't need the extra load capacity over the P rated, I am concerned about added weight and the effect on MPG.

Can anyone comment on fuel mileage with the BFG ATs on a completely stock 2nd gen V6 4x4? Or any other high quality tire that has a somewhat aggressive tread like the BFG AT?

    Thanks

    Joe

MrTRD is running the BFG KO's and his mileage is terrible... like 11-13mpg. he is running 295's though. I am running 255/85R16 BFG M/T KM2's and I still get 16-17 mpg average.

i have duratrac 265/75 16 E rated, they are heavy at 54 pounds a tire. I have them so the sage brush doesn't shred them as easily. I get 17 when I find good gas and 15 when i run into bad gas. Those are winter gas numbers so add an MPG or so for summer. I use a scanguage to track my mileage and reset at each fillup, I try to go to the same exact pump handle. I do have a 24" magnaflow muffler welded into the stock location which gave me ~2mpg.

I know I don't have bfg's but my point in posting is don't get too wide of a tire or tall and inflate properly if you want good gas mileage.

Thanks for the replies. Kind of confirms what I thought. I'm getting 15 in town, 19 highway right now. That's actually a little better than the rating on the window sticker. Sticker was 14/18. And we have ethanol in our gas year round in CA, so I think I'm actually doing very well with the p series tires that are on it.

Has anyone gone with a skinnier tire? Maybe a 235 or 245 width? I know we are only talking an inch or so nominal difference, but my off road use is pretty rare, and that might be an option. I can always air down at the beach.

Rear Leaf spring TSB, Bilstein 5100's all around w/ front set at 1.75", 265/75R/16 Mickey Thompson Baja STZ's, Trailer hitch w/custom wiring, AFE drop in dry filter, Rear Diff breather mod, Debadged truck, customized stock TRD wheel center caps, added factory fog lights, bed mat, door sills, tinted windows
For the same reason, I went with the Mickey Thompson Baja STZ's. The P rated 265/75R/16's ride great, they have minimal road noise, look good and have worn well for the first 8K. Very happy with them. And the best part, Price- $600 delivered to my door with a $50 gift card. Then went to wally world, got the lifetime mounting and balance for $47, so for basically $600 OTD it was tough to beat! Plus I sold my Dunlops which wore well for $100 with 35K on them!

Mickey Thompson......not a real popular brand around here, but I'm not into popularity......thanks for the recommendation! Been doing a little web browsing this morning and also found the Cooper Discoverer AT3 comes in P series sizes. Right now it's between those two.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to respond!
