Windshield crack above defroster on 2011

    In the cold weather last week tacoma was started with defroster & heat on now ther is and upside down a u line crack above the right side vent?? Toyota says no defect?? Has anyone else had this problem?? Live in NJ

    No rock chips?

    Usually if the windshield cracks because of the heat, there is either an imperfection in the windshield or a chip that spiders out when the heat hits the cold windshield.

    Common place for them to crack had 3 that cracked right near the wipers not a cold weather issue one in the winter two in the summer.

    Here in hot and cold Calgary most vehicles will get that crack eventually, usually aided by a rock chip though.

    You probably already had a chip you didn't notice. Same thing happened to me last winter.

    Too many to list now.
    Not necessarily a chip. Lived in Alaska my whole life and one of the general no-no's about living here is autostarting your car with the defrost on. I always set my air to the feet setting and then when I get in turn on defrost if needed after scraping the windshield. The drastic temp fluxuation cracks the windows. Seen it hundreds of times. Almost every alaskan windshield is cracked from this.
