Anyone else seem to think the front flaps are a touch to large? Don't get me wrong, they work great at their job. I don't want to run no flap, b/c I have a new white truck and attract tar on all my vehicles. I was thinking about trimming a few inches off, or buying some shorter ones and selling the OEM's. Opinions?

This was the first thing I noticed that I didn't like about my Taco. Also--If you get a chance on the highway, take a look at someone else's taco in the lane next to you. You'll see that the front flaps sail really bad at speeds above 60 MPG. Can you imagine the wind drag??
I took mine off and cut about 3 inches off from the bottom with a jigsaw and rounded the corners best I could. I like them much better now. Glad you mentioned this. Nice post. I don't think anyone here has brought this up yet.

Yes I have noticed that!!! I see that all the time, and am thinking... "are mine doing that?" lol. I also was thinking about the wind drap MPG issue!! These front flaps looks huge. You have any pics with your 3" trimmed off?

By the way... new to this forum, and so far I'm loving it!! must say, good forum.

when i did mine, all i used was a good pair of tin shears and a small box cutter. i drew on the first flap w/ a pencil and then used the cut off piece as a stencil for the other 3 flaps. just be careful of the plastic pop ins when removing the flaps

Just trim them on the truck. It's easy.

Yes, planning on trimming them on the truck. Lots of room. I'll be using a good pair of sheet metal sheers; ex commercial framing snips. round the corners, use some sand paper to remove any burs and blend it back in.... should work out pretty well. I'm gonna start with 2" up front and do 1/2" incriments from there. Thanks for the opportunity to talk about it and bounce ideas around. Like I said, I'll take some pics.

if you chose to trim the rear as well, they are much thicker and harder than the fronts.

Good to know. As of right now I think I will only trim the front ones 2-3". Go from there.

i hate thes flaps...the other day i accidently slid into a ditch on a dirt road, i wasnt messing around. i was about 2" from sitting my passanger side on the ground. the flaps were totaly in the mud and i was hoping they would be ripped off.(my neighbor with the biggest 4 wheel dodge ram and mud tires towed me out luckley)
but they do serve a good purpose and do their job for onroad use

I'd like to see pics when you're finished FL4x4Taco. I've been thinking about trimming the front flaps on mine too. I want to make a cardboard template based off the lower radiused part of the flap, then move that up to the desired cut off location, secure the cardboard template with tape, and then cut the flap.

I really wanted to keep mine on to protect my new white paint... but they eventually drove me nuts when offroad because they drag on everything and make a horrible noise. I just took them off completely, it looks ok but even the smallest bit of mud will shoot up and make the "taco rainbow" across your doors. Last weekend I followed my buddy through a 100' section of muddy trail, I had to roll up my windows and by the time it was over it loked like I had just spent the entire day mudding; my buddys Taco still has the front flaps on, the only things muddy were the wheel-wells and the wheels, it was otherwise totally clean... the flaps definitely work well at protecting the truck. You shouls just trim them if you want to protect the paint.

Exactly, I want some protection. That's why I'll be doing 2-3" of trimming.

Here's a couple of pics... I only cut the fronts. It doesn't seem the rear flaps bend from wind sheer. The're made a lot stiffer than the fronts so I left them alone.
