Nice! I just seen your thread. Well if I end up buying 01-04 mirrors I'll let you know about my old set, if you're interested.

You definitely want mirrors that are the fold-away type.

    Just placed my order!

Found the same mirrors from PartsGeek.com on RockAuto. I feel more comfortable purchasing now. Hopefully they work out good

Did you use the rockauto discount? I know there used to be a 5% discount for forum members.

I once removed my driver's side mirror by hitting a bridge abutment on the freeway; fell asleep.

Moved the entire door back about 2" as well. Hell of a way to wake up.

This was on my 2wd '01 Taco.

Two weeks ago when I received my set, I had to send back my driver side 01-04 because it shook at highway speed. Got a replacement in from RockAuto yesterday and had it installed. Went on the interstate and it shakes as well. Called them up and they ended up just refunding me for that one mirror. Great customer service!

As far as the shaking, I'm just gonna deal with it (for now). They look great and I love the improved visibility.

    Sounds just like my experience.
There just doesn't seem to be a suitable replacement for the factory Toyota mirrors.
Post up the name of the manufacturer of mirrors that you got so others can stay away from them.
As I mentioned earlier, the POS ones I got said KOOL-VIEW.

The ones I have are TYC brand and came from a more reputable distributor versus ebay or Amazon. It's kinda hard to say too because my passenger side works perfectly, no shaking whatsoever at speeds of up to 80mph. It's just the damn driver side that keeps catchin wind or whatever is makin it shake so much.

    :notsure:

Maybe if it bothers me that much I'll be eventually looking for another driver side mirror.

So excited to try out this Mod!!! I went over to my local pic-a-part and pulled out a wiring harness and plugs from a Camry (I think a 93 - I'll be going back to the get the details on the model/year for everyone's reference:D). Found three AWESOME deals on ebay (I prefer OEM used over new crap-made), the switch was under $20, the Driver OEM mirror for $27 and Pass OEM for $63 all with free shipping!!! Both mirrors came off a 2002. I can't wait to get them and throw them on!

I have the SR5 with the blank on the armrest for the switch, I'm assuming there will be a fuse that corresponds (thinking about routing it into the 40 that fuses for the windows).

I don't have video, but will take photos of the process. I was able to find a video on youtube of a guy who installed some on his 97, but the video only showed that they were functional, not how they were wired. It bugs me too when there's no follow-up after X amount of time/miles of how the mod is holding up. I appreciate that about TW!

Photo shows my door is prepped for the new hardware and wiring (*and my trusty Chilton guide!!)

I did this swap on my 96 and love it! The only issue is that if I try to use the power mirror adjustment it will pop the fuse. Could it be as simple as just changing it to a 15a fuse? That seems too easy to me..

OP, Do you know if there's anyway to swap the non-power side view mirrors on an 03 to the one's like you put on? Had the big power ones on my old tacoma, but my new one has the smaller, non-power ones :(

I did this swap on my '99, using the 'K SOURCE' brand (more expensive) from RockAuto.
Quality was pretty good but the driver-side glass does shake just a little, not enough to want to return them, however.
Very happy with it. I think they even came with the factory nuts to install them.

Can't believe I just found this thread. I've been wanting to swap out my 99 mirrors for something bigger for awhile but wasn't sure what would fit. Had started looking at 4Runner mirrors while trying to find some replacement seats. I prefer that square style. Anyway just another thing to add to the list.
