probably one of my favorite quotes

the red hot chili peppers band member during the fight scene on the beach

Johnny Utah: Okay. I get it. This is where you tell me that "locals rule", and that Yuppie insects like me shouldn't be surfing the break, right?
    Bunker Weiss: [smiling] Nope.
Surf gang: That would be a waste of time...
Lupton "Warchild" Pittman: We're just gonna fuck you up!

I've never used premixed stuff so I'm not versed with that. Also, I would probably use a piece of plastic and epoxy it on the back of the flare and then use bondo or some sort of body filler to fill the hole from the front. Then sand it smooth and paint. The problem is that the flares are plastic and are slightly plyable while FG and body filler is quite rigid. The best solution would be a new flare, IMHO.

In summary if using FG, I would rough up the surface on the back of the flare around the hole you're patching. Use a paint brush and paint on some of the epoxy resin, put on a layer of fiberglass mat, paint it again with the resin until it is wet looking and push out any air pockets if there are any with the brush, put on another layer of mat, paint on enough resin so that it is just wet looking again, etc for however many layers you want/need. Then let it cure completely. From the front, I would then fill the hole with bondo or some sort of body filler. Sand and paint.

Learned everything I know about FG while rebuilding the transom and hull of this old boat:

as far as my gauge pod here is how i did it
first: make a jig i used the garage door opener little flap cut out the center section then with some 2" pvc pipe make the gauge pod
    [IMG]

second: take some thin fleece fabric from wally world it was like $2.97 for a yard
    [IMG]

take that fleece and stretch and glue it down to the jig
    should look something like this
    [IMG]

take some of the thin really runny super glue i used some of this
    [IMG]

take that and cover all the fleece put a good amount of it on then take some activator
    i used this
    [IMG]

spray the activator on the glued fleece best to do it out side or in a well ventilated area because it will burn your eyes and put off a lot of fumes it will get pretty warm too because of the chemical reaction. wait a few minutes for it to cure completely, it will become hard like fiberglass cut out the wholes for the gauges. sand down excess glue and fleece.
then take some bondo or body filler put a light coat on to fill low spots and to make it paint able
    [IMG]
sand down bondo and then prime and paint
thats the easy way to do fiberglass takes half the time and cost a 1/4 of the amount to do

The flares on my 98 are actually fiberglass. Here's what I'm trying to patch/fix. In all honesty it's not worth a new flare to me... I'd just prime and paint right over it if worse came to worse.

Anybody else get this flu shit that is going around? I never get sick and have been miserable for the last couple days. Worst part is I don't want to even get close to the baby because I don't want her feeling like this.

Shiieeet, this might be the first winter in my life that I haven't been sick before Christmas and still going strong. Been drinking absolutely disgusting juices I've been making with my $36 handy wal-mart juice extractor - maybe it's working. Usually get it baaaad like 2 or 3 times a year. Keep away!
