what paint for leaf springs

i have OME Dakar leaf springs currently and noticed they have some surface rust starting on them. when i instal my LT front end and swap the OME shocks to Kings to match the front King coil overs i am tearing down the leaf pack to cycle it so i can find where to bump/strap it at so i do not destroy the shock.

is basic rustoleum rattle can paint my best bet?

POR 15 - do it once and be done with it... topcoat with any rattle can b/c it is not UV protected... I have used it on a ton of suspension parts through the years...

 

can POR 15 be found at the local auto parts store or hardware store? i am tired of paying shipping of everything I've ordered recently haha

 

I have seen it at a local NAPA but no - not usually... they are out of NJ - but trust me it is well worth it! Do some research on their site - www.por15.com - great paint and long track record of working better than rattle can type stuff... it is pretty expensive, but like I said do it once right... nothing more annoying (to me) than looking under the truck 8 months after painting with rattle cans and seeing rust... you won't get that with POR 15... most recently I painted the entire frame, suspension components and axles with it on my 73 K5 blazer build...

 

POR15 is good stuff.

The shipping is the least of the cost.
It's a multi-stage prep and if you skip any step, you may as well just use house paint.

 

^^agreed - follow their directions but it is not very hard...

 

Consider pre-treatment of any steel with marine grade Ospho (ospho.com) or similar chromate-phosphoric, or phosphoric acid product, prior to a primer paint.

A little bit of the product goes a long way. Follow precautionary warnings as necessary.

If other members have had good or bad experiences with this or similar products, I would be interested in their opinions.

 

Sounds awesome. I was looking for something to redo my offroad bumper and sliders.

 

None. They are leaf packs.

If you use the truck as a truck they will be shot before they ever rust out.
