Why do you ask? Mine is a DCLB and I have had the same experience as the OP.

I'm just trying to isolate if the " bog down " feeling at low revs in D is typical to one configuration of truck

FWIW , I think the bog feeling is related to the TC being just on the verge of locking up

OP, ive got a 2012 that i have noticed this on also..from all my research it seems to do it almost like u state, in 4th gear with the TC locked up around 40mph, but once to about 44mph it quits....from what ive found out its just that sweet spot where its bogging down cause not enough speed and rpms when the TC is locked and its wanting to not gear down...u can feel the bog and alittle jerk or shake from it. far as i know now its normal for when its happening, its just easier to notice on tacomas then some other vehicles

I guess I feel better knowing that other people are having the same issue but I still don't like it. I don't want to change the way I drive so that I avoid the bog shift so to speak. Seems like it could be programmed not to shift until it reaches the higer rpm instead of just shifting when i'm not pushing it like that. I guess when I take it in for the 5000 mile service i'll mention that to the tech and see what they say.

Drop it into 4th when you feel it bog , see if that helps

Great, its only running at about 1600rpm at town/city speeds. I get 19mpg with 265/75/16's, just over 20 on the highway. As far as I remember you are not supposed to use "D" while towing, even on the highway, and never in 4wd. I drove it the same with the stock sized tires too.

The only time I ever use "D" is above 80km/h, other wise the engine chugs along at 1000rpm and is constantly shifting in and out of overdrive. I guess if I lived somewhere flat it would be different but its very hilly/mountainous here.

Im not 100% sure it states it in the owners manual, its been a long time since I read it, to be sure I would look yourself.

It won't be effected at all if you drive at speeds below which point the truck would shift to 5th ( D )

OK, but you carry equipment in your truck, your bed is not empty.

Doesn't make any difference , used to do it before my cap and tools too

Right around 40mph , and low revs

My truck does the exact same thing. It seems to be the worse when I'm driving up a slight incline right around 40 mph. It drives me nuts. But I think the only way to "fix" it is to shift into 4th.

For the record where I live it is extremly flat. No hills, incline's, mountains, etc. Is there any ill effect of shifting between 4 and D while i'm driving down the road? I tried just running it in 4 but I do get to a point where i'm running about 1900 rpm and I feel the truck is ready to go into overdrive. Is it ok to switch between the two while i'm going down the road? I did it one time yesterday and it sounded like to me that the shift points when it is in 4 are different than the shift points when you put it in D. Thats why i'm asking if there is any ill effect of shifting between the two while driving.

You won't hurt the truck shifting from D to 4th or back

Having it in 4th ( or any other gear ) will only limit the gear that the truck will shift up to , it doesn't change shift points

The point of having the gear selection and console mounted shifter is to use it! I constantly shift into 3rd and 2nd on steep downhills so I don't have to ride the brakes. In 4wd I shift from "2" to "L" often and the truck is smart enough to know not to downshift until its at a slow enough speed.

I've only owned manual transmissions and was really hesitant to buy the automatic, having the console mounted shifter is a decent compromise.

Drove my 2001 tacoma double cab to work today. I have to say, I like the feel of it shifting gears way better than the 13 and it has 165,000 miles on it. Hopefully i'll get used to the new one!
