Lift kit

Hello to all. I just bought my first tacoma and I am wanting to lift it. I dont want to go real high thinking more like a 3". If I do a suspenion lift do I need to change the upper A-arm like I've been told and to you recomend any particular kind? Thanks for your time.

 

Welcome! If you want to lift in the 2.5 - 3" range, you should plan on changing the upper control arm. What's your budget for the lift and will you install it yourself or no?

I'm a 1st gen feller, however i have many friends with 2nd gens who did 3" of lift. NO you do not have to change your upper control arm. Of course you may be recommended to giving your changing your stock suspension anyways. But IMO waste of money unless you have to or y our rich

 

Would really like to stay around 1500. You get what you pay for and I dont junk but I dont want to break the bank either.

 

Are you doing wheels tires or just lift?

 

Yes I am doing wheels and tires. I am between 285/70/17 if it will fit or a 265/70R17

Most guys on here either go OME springs and shocks or Toytec/eibach springs and bilstein shocks and add-a-leafs. That'll be just about right in your range. Or if you don't plan to do offroad a whole lot you can go spacers up front for much cheaper

 

I am set at 1.75 in the front w/ Bilstein 5100's and per the alignment shop I will have to get new UCA if I go any higher. Not sure on the 2012 seems each truck is a bit different. 285's should fit w/ 3" w some trimming and if you stay around 2" you shouldn't need UCA's and 265/70's will fit w/ no trimming. With that budget I would go w/ LR Light Racing UCA's and ICON extended travel shocks if the 2k is just for suspension.

 

I had Bilstiens set to 1.75 on my truck for about 2 years now.. I knew my camber was way off \---/ and always wanted it to be right..but they maxed it during alingment. Ended up having to get a set of Light Racing UCA's. Had it done yesterday and wow what a difference!

 

I'd check out Old Man Emu for a front lift. 885 coils with a top plate should put you right at about 3". Light Racing UCA's will help with alignment issues. Icon or Wheeler's 3-leaf progressive AAL for the rear with whatever shocks you like best, OME, Bilstein, etc. If you tow or haul frequently though, it'd be worth it to get the Dakar leaf pack instead of an AAL. With all of that, you'll be right around $1,500 in parts.

 

Old Man Emu seems like a great fit for your budget. My expedition offroading friend has it on his 2009 DCLB and he has nothing but great things to say.

 

Good to know I might just have to get a set soon and see what kind of difference it makes. How much did you end up paying total w/ labor??
