even if it wasn't pinned/welded i THINK, not sure, if it's registered as a SBR it's legal in CA

    Nope.

    There is a legal path, but it's a catch-22.
The BATFE will not issue the NFA tax stamp unless you are in compliance with state and local law.
California requires that to be in compliance, you are in possession of a Dangerous Weapons Permit.

There are currently ZERO DWPs issued to civilians in California.

We can set up an NFA trust and have an AOW, but no SBR, SBS, or automatics.

    Pretty much.

$200 NFA tax stamp for silencers and short barrel.

Automatics are still a problem because more recent legislation has restricted modern production from civilian ownership. You would have to find an older transferable gun... you'd be looking at the cost of a new Tacoma just to own a transferable select-fire M16.

I keep forgetting about that because two of my three ARs don't need it.
    One's featureless and one is a .22lr

Saw a guy out at BassPro sitting on his tailgate with a sign that said "AR15, never fired, $2000" a few hours ago.

When I walked out of the store, one of the managers was talking to him. He was still sitting down and it looked like a friendly enough conversation... manager may have simply wanted to make sure the guy knew the laws on private sales?

    Did I mistype that?

    Meant $200. Fat finger.

    Look at it this way.

It's been $200 ever since the NFA was enacted before the Great Depression.

Not so expensive now, is it?
Seriously... the $200 tax stamp was Congress's way around 2A challenges on the NFA since they provided a legal path.
It was effectively a ban for common folks.

I'd pay twice that if I could pay the tax immediately and walk out with a can.
