That has a spindle that pushes the track width out a lot like I was talking about

I kind of wanted to go buy a totaled 2nd gen one that doesn't have frame damage and build on that cause I love the look of the 2nd gen it was actually my dream truck took me 2 years and a deployment to actually convince myself I could afford it haha

Run second gen conversion glass on a pickup ha. I agree they are great looking trucks but such a bad platform to build.

I wouldn't mine a 1st gen it's just I have like 5 vehicles where I live between me my wife and brother in law and in laws I hate living at home man but the marine corps pays me so much and it's hard to not pocket the money when the chance is in front of me

What do you want out of the truck? How do you see yourself using it?

It was my stress reliever when I was in North Carolina when ever I got bored I went wheeling and when ever I could I'd drive it in the middle of creeks and fish out of the bed but I want this truck for a toy I want to go wheel every weekend pretty much and if I ever get off soon enough at be on week days too

Ive never thought about building up a 2nd gen but you have me curious. What would you say are the top reasons why they are a bad platform?

That's awesome! Where were you stationed in NC? I more meant why do you want LT? What are you long term goals?

It's a long list ha. The frame is so wide up front so if you want to pull a lot of travel your track width has to be super wide. The subframe hangs very low so you have to have a very high ride height to not scrape in two track and have decent bump travel. The frame is laminated and un boxed in most places. The motor mounts are super weak. I can keep going ha

It is a long list and takes more work but it seems like once built up, it would be a "stronger" truck all around. Pardon my lack of knowledge but whats the down side of being a little wider? Aside from having to suck it in on some trails.

a plus 6'' kit for a 2nd gen (is there such a thing?) would be super wide and lose all DD capability, and if you get to wide it won't fit on some trailers.
but it would be really stable at speed if set up correctly

It's just unnecessary to be that wide. You want the inner pivot as close together as possible. Being super wide is just a result of starting with the wrong chassis

I was stationed at cherry point man it was a blast just because I love beer and fishing and that's about all there is on the east coast haha but a lot of mud and surprisingly my truck being stock 2 wheel drive has made it through some really amazing feats of mud and impressed a lot of my jeep buddies out there but I can't wait to get it on some dry dirt for once in her life haha but I want long travel because I want to be able to not have to worry about slamming down or bottoming out on every rut and I don't want a bunch of lift so travel is where I want to go

As close together as possible without sacraficing stabilitly through turns right? There has to be a breaking point on going too skinny

i'm not sure on trucks but on buggy's you just set them as close as possible and get the stability through the length of the arms, you get better travel that way

There isn't look at trophy trucks and one cars. The arms are center mounted. They still run very long arms and have a pretty wide track but they limit the travel and have very little camber change and a way better roll center
