One thing I kept in mind was that most unaltered/inexpensive/run of the mill car trailers are no more than 82" wide. I kept my truck at 80 to be able to trailer it easily. I've run it this season and don't think I would want it any wider. I'm about 7" wider total per side (susp and tires). Its not a toyota, but the point is the trailer thing, and the trails can get tight. I was following a baja bug that was crazy wide with my old baja and noticed that I could actually dodge things that he had to hit because he was so wide that he had no choice. I also agree on the built first gen over a nice mid travel second gen. If you have the room I'd get a 4 banger 2wd first gen and trailer it with the plush 2nd gen, or even the 3.4(the 4.0 should pull it). I do have to admit a built second gen is nice, but they are big when they are done. In my case I am in my whole truck about 18k, but only paid 2500 for it stock. Whatever your budget, that 2nd gen truck takes a big chunk out of it right from the get go. Just my $.02

I DD my 6" over all day long lol; Until I get something more practical. It really aint all that bad; True about the trailers- had to have AAA bring in a bigger truck to get my truck off the side of the road and into a shop.

I've seen almost ALL styles of LT Tacoma trucks do excellent regardless of LT brand. What matters most is upkeep and more upkeep and don't forget about more upkeep!!

I'm lookin for a small car right now then onto a Tundra to hall this bad boy Tacoma out.

It all depends on what your budget is and what you want out of it. If you are making a a std cab 2wd with 31s that is bare bones, then a 4 banger is lighter, and uses less fuel. It also might be cheaper and easier to find. If you start turning bigger tires or a trail truck (alot of gear/tools), which will be a lot heavier then the V6 would be the choice.

My sisters BF bought a 92 4 banger with a mid travel and engine cage, fully glassed, beard seats for 3k. It is a std cab and has a stock rear, but was geared. It is a fun truck and your 2nd gen would tow it out so you can drive it like you stole it.

I'm a cheap bastard so I would make a light 4 banger lil toy if I could, and drive it like a go kart. But I have two kids and all my friends have jeeps so that wasn't an option. Thats why I have a V8 grocery getter.

My wife is planning it, so probably just my family and my parents. I'm making her plan a trip for once in her life so she can't bitch once she gets there, FAIL. I'm going to go back to just telling her "get in the motorhome friday we'll be back sunday"

how tall are you jacob ? not sure if you are considering a single cab, or an extra cab, but im 510, and im almost at the limit for comfort with my single cab. i still have to add seats and a cage, then who knows what room will be left. not to mention the shorter wheel base is a bit of a downer.

I sold my extra cab 99 5lug for 1k. It was straight, 205k everything worked. I did beat it like LT though and it was stock. But it you are building from the ground up??

Jeff is lying to somebody, I'm a real 5'10" and a std cab sucks. My sister BF has the beard seats against the cab, he is going to run the cage around the seats or in the bed.

One guy on the forum has a 6lug 2wd 4 cyl first gen with factory 4.56s and a locker. Might pay more, but the truck did well when I was with him. Boxed frame on the 6-lug plus gears and a locker might offset the purchase price.

    Hey Erik (SoCalTaco65),

Any idea where to find some petrified wood out there in the Anza-Borrego desert? I heard there was a trunk off of Arroyo Salado but don't know where (it's as big a wash as any lol) Also saw pics of it scattered about. Have you had any luck??
