Same here, my family and I have always had good luck with Chevy. I actually miss my Z71 at times. It was a nice truck but I got rid of it because it wasn't practical for me at the time. My old man has had a few of them and they've held up well. He's still got 2 of them.

I had a ton of GM's before, starting when I was 17 that is all I drove till the Tacoma last fall..22 years. Most were older and sure they needed some work, but even the old Celebrity I ran to almost 200K sure didn't need half an engine.

As I see it, they used to stand behind what they sold and that is part of why I had the loyalty. This experience with the dealer was bad enough but for the corporate office to tell me they feel he lied to me and was trying to take advantage of me but yet they still feel no need to help at all.

I think if my wife got $10k for her 13 yr old 160k mile Tacoma, a free rental, and money off any Toyota due to the frame rust then it is precious little for GM to take care of $1800 of parts that failed due to their faulty head which they had acknowledged to be such..I didn't even get a discount on a rental car for the 2 weeks my truck was down. I told the guy the gov't should have let them fall into the sea, since I'm sure the "screw the customer" attitude is part of why they got in trouble. The owner of the dealership told me they didn't ask GM to help because "it's not worth our time"..coupled with the service manager saying he already lost money fixing the head as a warranty versus a walkin, no way he is losing more money asking to comp the rest of it or he'll get fired.

Mike did you get any paint on your sliders. I am all clean with mineral spirits then sanded to knock the shine off then cleaned again with mineral. I will try to prime them in the am before work.

Nothing yet. If all goes well, I hope to get them primed this weekend. I've been working long hours this week. All I managed to do is wash them to get the soap off. I've got the emory cloth and mineral spirits ready to go though, just need to pick up some primer. I'm doing some research on different rust preventers because I want to coat the underside with whatever I coat my frame with. Right now I'm leaning toward Eastwood products.

Yea I saw that, it was funny! For the Meet and Eat, maybe we need to make it a little more centralized for all the western folk. How about we do something in the Framingham area? Just throwing it out there, doesn't matter to me, what do you guys think?

I've been doing a lot of reading about the rust preventers and all seem to have their pros and cons. The drawback with POR-15 seems to be the prep work and it's sensitivity to humidity when you apply it. If you do everything correctly, it hardens up and does not come off but if something goes wrong, basically good luck. I saw a few non-partisan comparisons, the most interesting one was a guy actually bought 3 products, coated 3 pieces of steel, put a gouge on one side down to the metal and put them all through freeze-thaw cycles until they failed.

So, where I ended is, 90% of people do nothing to treat their frame so as long as I do a decent job and do something, I'm all set so I might as well go with the product that's the easiest to apply.

For all you guys painting make sure it is above the min temp for the paint. That is probably half of NH Mikes problems. I know Billy is doing his inside so he should not have any problem.
