Don't do it Greggy, its a class 1 felony to remove ANYTHING BUT TRASH in and around the park, & believe it or not they DO check from time to time, just like a few months back I told some guys not to take palletts & construction cut-offs to burn because its illegal...they got called on it from rangers & luckily didn't get cited but its a $250.00 mandatory fine if you do..To get caught removing plants/rocks/fossils/wildlife is an arrestable offense..

Ya, you need to look outside park boundaries. The Yuha Desert area perhaps (loaded with fossil oyster shells).. and I remember going just across the border to a big area of petrified wood and agate... back in the 60's... there was just a pile of rocks next to the dirt road with U.S. painted on one side and Mex. on the other! We would drive over, collect some specimens, and wait for the Border Patrol Jeep to drive away, and come back... This place was just over the border, south of Ocotillo.

I have photos of a 'petrified forest' in Baja... another one, near El Rosario:

We went there twice (2005 & 2006)... Did not remove anything, so others could enjoy finding them as well... Not sure if Mexico considers petrified wood as being a fossil, but foreigners removing fossils is prohibited in Mexico.

So basically go by feel. Something you learn more over time depending on how much traction you have in certain situations?

    Thanks

I picked up a Colt H-bar match grade with aim point optics for "the right price" the day before the recent school tragedy. That turned into a wise investment. I sure didn't need yet another gun but the price was right. Well, now the price is right again, made a few grand off that deal :D
