Brush Guards

The thing that kills me about these threads, is that I read the first page and never once did the guy say he wanted a brushguard for protection. He just said he wanted one and it turned into a shitfest within the first 5 posts.

Sure it is nice to inform them nicely about that downside incase they are misguided, but it doesn't need to turn into a shitfest like this... Some people don't offroad and just do things for looks and we have to accept that, besides it's not our truck anyway, so just because you disapprove of a mod, doesn't mean you should tear into someone about doing that mod to their truck.

Lets get back on Topic - 2012 Grill Guards - what types are on the market.

Forgot about Ranch Hand and they headquartered here in SA...they mainly focus on the full size truck market...I almost never see any Toyota with a Ranch Hand. I know they are very well made and are heavy. The main draw back is, they dont believe in light tabs, none of their bumpers come with them. Most people end up welding or drilling their own.
As far as the Tacoma goes, they are just ok looking in my opinion. But just another idea for those interested.

 

My uncle killed 2 deer with his Westin brush guard on his frontier and said it only wrecked stuff when they rolled under the truck

 

^ that looks like its built good. Never even thought of those for tacomas, but i see fords and chevys with them all the time!

ENOUGH of the posts regarding the structural integrity of a brush guard on a Tacoma vs. the cow catcher on a train from the 1880s. The OP and several others on here want to see examples of grill guards/brush guards for their 2012+. Most people want them simply for looks or to mount lights on.

And as far as "Damage Multipler" - there is something called Car Insurance.

I'm definitely thinking about getting one, but I don't like the thought of putting an extra 100 lbs on my front end. I'm pretty sure the avid lightbar only weighs about 30 or 40 lbs, right? How much do the bull bars without the headlight grills weigh?

 

Hey man we are just here to help you with a bad decision. When it comes down to it and you want to be stubborn and buy some useless crap for your truck its your call. But don't come back crying about how shitty is when you hit a fly and it bends and hits your hood.

Personally I believe in function before form. So if you are into form maybe put one of these on a nissan and call it good?

Who gives a shit if someone wants a brush guard? If they like the look, go for it. I wouldn't consider it a bad decision some of you act like the OP was asking for a suggestion on a 6" body lift.

 

As stated before, they do serve their purpose and provide light duty protection and a nice place to mount lights, and i think they look good. Maybe not everyone is planning on trying to use their truck as a meatgrinder on the highway, and maybe not everyone likes them, but previous posts are right, enough with the shit tossing and dead horse beating. Give the guy some suggestions about WHICH one to buy not whether he should buy one or not or GTFO before the thread ends up locked.

I'm a 1st gen, but i liked my aries when I had it and the 2nd gen aries are pretty much the same.

Yesterday I used my grille guard too push a car down the street. It worked great. Nothing bent or got damaged. Mines a Westin.

 

Not sure if your still in the market for a Big Country Brush Guard. I just ordered mine from Line-X of South Georgia in Valdosta. It was $399, and he is letting me pick it up and go not making me pay install. The other people in Georgia, like in Macon wanted $535 and wanted me to pay for them to install it.

Anyways it should be here in a couple of weeks, but I was just informed by Primo 95 they are on back order. Give them a call.

 

I worked at ranch hand for about 3 years, stuff is stout. The grill guard is really well made and can take more abuse than a lot of full bumpers. Don't let anyone steer you wrong if you want one.

Only piece of advise to offer is go steel. Westin and others can be nice but full steel in a decent gauge will go further.

 

WHOA, i dont really want to join the arguement,

my question is............. if you decide to go with a bull bar or a brush guard, ect, can it be mounted while still having the OEM skidplate on there, or does the skid have to come off to accommodate the mounting connection of the bars? anyone have both skid and bar on?

 

On my 03 you can have both on.
