So pissed right now. Two of the tires I just bought off craigslist are cupped and causing some bad vibrations. Anyone know of any ways to help or a shop that shaves/trues tires? Otherwise these are going back on craigslist, probably for a loss.

Hey guys I normally don't do this but I'm pretty darn proud. My son entered a contest at Mini of Concord (Mini Cooper) and he made a video to their jingle music. He honestly worked real hard on it, taping it, writing and rapping to it all by himself without any help. Please go to this link and if you think his is pretty good, please vote on it. Granted he's not a "singer", he did what he felt was what was needed to show that Mini Coopers are really cool cars.

    &

His is the one with the Red and Blue mini.

    Thanks a bunch, everyone!! :)

He had s few pictures up and said they were 95% tread and bought in October. Said they were good to go, but he didn't need them since he totaled his truck. I should have asked for more pictures or if there was wear problems, but didn't. It's my fault as well, but the guy was telling me how he got screwed over in the past and can't stand when people do that. Well he did it to me. I'm done with craigslist and should have just bought new this summer. You live and learn.

What speed are you experiencing the vibrations at?

With tire vibrations - I always start by assuming they're not balanced right.

Not all shops nor all techs can balance big heavy mud-terrains.

And since you brought them in as "used" tires, the shop that mounted them for you doesn't really have a stake in how well they balanced them - other than the more-or-less token mount & balance fee you paid them.

I just got them rebalanced at Discount tire in Campbell. I'm experiencing the vibrations between 50 mph and up. They have free balancing and replacement certificates so it will be free to balance them as much as I'd like. Just sucks because the nearest Discount is Campbell or Gilroy.

I just talked to a tire shop about shaving the tire to even it out. They said it costs $55 per tire and the should be good as new when they're done. I'm tempted, but I'd hate to throw more money at the tires just for them to not to work out. Anyone have any ideas on tire shaving?

If it was me - I'd try another go at road force rebalancing, then maybe try the tire shave approach. Does the $55 include remounting and rebalancing?

Yes it does. $35 for shaving and $20 to balance. It's 1/2 a new tire so I might try it. I might see if another discount could balance them again though, but the tire is noticeably worn. Here is the worst tire. The other isn't as bad.

Sorry to hear about the tires Robert, hopefully you can solve the issue. I didn't notice any unusual wear on them when I picked them up from the guy.

I don't blame you at all. I didn't ask you to check them out and they look fine besides that one tire. I didn't notice till I was really up close and when the tech pointed it out. If the shaving works, then it won't be a big deal. I can't thank you enough for helping me out with it.
