He is located in Hawaii and could be exposing his undercarriage to salty water. No dispute...that is some bad rust but he may not be telling the whole story.

Salt water will chew through metal very quickly!

 

Wow that's really bad for an 07. It is popular amongst some wheelers here in FL to do stupid shit like drive under bridges through the saltwater and what not, I'm sure there's a particularly aggravating factor that's being left out here in the interest of a warranty claim again toyota.

I had a buddy go through two brand new land rover discoveries doing that. Both times he was able to convince land rover that traversing saltwater is assumed to be part of normal duty for a LR

 

Unless that FJ goes in salt water like one of these old amphicars ,that's way too much rust.

That's one of the bullshit items I got with my truck when I bought it. Complete undercarriage coating with a LineX type coating.

 

It's just a tad late for that.

 

I kind of wonder what's going on with toyota these days in regards to rust. We inherited an 02 Prius from my Wife's Dad ( no jokes guys) Anyway, the underside of that thing was rusted like you wouldn't believe for such a new car. I spent several days using a wire wheel brush and black paint. The car had spent its first 6 years in Rural PA, thus lots of road salt. None of my old Toyotas had this problem period.

 

Theres been a considerable amount of road salt around my truck, I rinse it all the time. I have surface rust under mine, but nothing out of the ordinary. Only thing that bothers me is the corrosion that started around the engine block.

I don't care what that guy says, he didn't wash his shit... or if he did, he sucks at it, BAD. Thats a typical scene back home in Astoria, OR where everyone drives on the beach and never rinses their shit.

 

i dont care where he lives. it shouldnt rot out in 2.5 years. i'd burn the truck and report it stolen

I have never seen cancerous rust like that appear in 2 years unless you fail to maintain your equipment. Where I work we have weather stations in some of the saltiest environments in Texas and even our non galvanized or stainless equipment has never had that much rust in 2 years. That vehicle had to have come into contact with a serious oxidizer. Who knows he may have thought washing his frame with a bleach water mixture would clean his frame really well.

 

You have to wash the salt off dude!! Its called a power washer, we know how to use them well due to salty roads up here, but if you want to drive in the ocean better wash'er up after having fun or you'll end up like numb nuts FJ

 

That's pretty extensive!! I lived in Colorado for years, and as a kid i never thought to wash under my fullsize bronco, and it sat outside all year, went heavy offroading, and played slip and slide through mushy salt bedded snowy roads, but didn't have anywhere close to this type of rust. It was an older vehicle too. This looks to have sat in a saltwater puddle up to the frame for a long time.

 

notice most of it is concentrated on towards the front end of the truck.

What about the exhaust? Seems that would be the FIRST thing to rot off...lord knows they do that all on their own anyway (stainless versions excluded)
