Without starting some argument or anything, do you trust the retread tires? They're nice and cheap but my truck isn't on the trails that much yet so I'm hesitant to drive around on those things. A lot of reviews I've read said they lasted 40k miles and they all had no problems. How are you liking them?

i trust them completely. i've put them through much harsher conditions than any on-road vehicle will ever see. spun them on rocks, trees, and other potentially damaging surfaces. landed jumps with 15 psi in them without problem, and in addition to regular daily driving, i've made two 900 mile trips with them. one of which was pulling a trailer the entire way.

if they were recaps (scrape off old tread, glue on new tread) i may not trust them, but these are remolds, which is an entirely different kind of retreading. they actually go into the same style machine that makes brand new tires. the tread is not glued onto these, but rather melted into the casing, creating a single unit, instead of a separate case and tread, that are held together by glue.

Now you see, I did not know that. That sounds a hell of a lot better than what I was thinking. Did you get ones with the kedge grip? I don't get snow at my exact location but a short drive up the highway and I'm in snow. I drive in rain a lot so I'm thinking it may be worth the shortened tread life to get the extra traction. Which ones did you get exactly? Guard dogs or backbones or whatever?

I have the guard dogs. i think they only make the guard dogs and wardens in 285/70/17s

I do not have the kedge grip. Scott has the kedge grip and likes it. Mine did fantastic when we went snow wheeling last month, but that's not to say that kedge wouldn't do even better.

Well, shit. I was looking at the MTR's but at about half the price I may test these out. I think I've only seen one bad review on them so far (from someone who has actually bought and used them) and he just had a tire blow out on the freeway.

Thanks for answering all my questions :D

    My pleasure.

It was the price that originally attracted me to these tires, but after owning them for a little and wheeling them quite a few times now, i'm thuroughly impressed by their on and off road handling charicteristics. i was sure that for $157 a tire, they'd be hard to balance, ride like junk on road, with thier off road ability being the only strength. boy were my assumptions proven wrong. little heavier than comparable MTs (however they are also larger), and have a nice hum on the highway, but they grip very well on dry and wet pavement. very stickey tire.....and i'm saying all of this, having run both 265 and 295 Nitto Terra Grapplers, which are an outstanding tire on-road.

Ah damn, that's what I forgot to ask you. How well they balance. Glad to know that they shouldn't have a problem. I saw their site said they sometimes have balancing issues but it's pretty rare and it looks like they'd send you a new tire if it did. Buying these tires just means I can regear even sooner :D

they ballance just fine. just make sure NOT to get them road force ballanced. i've had mine rebalanced a couple of times because just about every wheeling trip, i rip off wheel weights or take a nice big chunk out of a tread lug, which can be enough to throw it off. never had one go out of ballance because of something that wasn't my fault though.

    Thanks Andres :)

Thanks Jovani. You should come out to a meet with us sometime. if not an offroad meet, we have a pretty big group of guys in Orlando who get together for lunch and dinner pretty regularly.

Why no road force balancing? Another question, how are the sidewalls on these things? Do they wear out faster since they've already seen some action before you get to use them? How are yours holding up.

can't remember exactly why no road force balancing, but it hassomething to do with the manufacturing process. I actually know of a couple guys who have tried RF ballancing with them, and sure enough, no as good of a balance as the standard. I actually view this as a plus, since it make balancing a lot cheaper.

the sidewalls hold up very well. Mine are full of gashes from spinning them while up against sharp rocks, and they are still holding together great. treadwright hand selects and approves all of the carcases they use, so it's not like you'll get some old, beat up, dry roted tire. if you do, they'll replace it.

I actually got an email yesterday from them. not sure if it's a new tire, or just an option for what they already offer, but a full remold looks to be in their future

Road force balancing these tires doesn't work (ask me how I know :( ). It is based on dynamic balancing for the tires, well these tires are manufactured and preweighted for static balancing. The first 2 times I balanced mine I had some major issues which I figured out later was because my machine wasn't going into static mode. The biggest issue for me besides the vibration was the constant "wandering" feeling going down the road. My truck was swaying all over the place.

Once I figured out what was wrong and balance them statically like I thought I was originally, these are just as smooth as any tire I have owned going down the road.
