I'm usually on 17 meters during the day and 80 meters at night. 17 is good for day time DX have talked to dozens of west coast stations from Maine even mobile. Usually at night I'm on 75/80 meter AM good for 300 to 500 miles. 145.450 in Conway NH is one of my transmitters it has a a PL of 100HZ great active radio club, the club call sign for the repeater is W1MWV check in any time your in the neighborhood. By the way the Conway repeater is also linked to the echolink system so it can be reached from any where in the world the link is KB1EZJ-R 73's N3LYT

Yeah, lots of talk on all repeaters lately of the passing of Richard Vidmar. Lots of the chatter is about the preparation of the memorial services the ham community is hosting at Chevron Park in El Segundo on Feb 24th for him.

Anybody else hear about this? Never heard the guy on the radio but he seemed to be a very well liked member of the community and a lot of people knew him.

Richard Vidmar used to own "the notorious 435" repeater but sold it last year to a chick named Christina or otherwise known as RRI. Lots of rivalry and history with richard vidmar and his old 435 history

There are such a thing as a "closed" repeater (legal) but jamming or intentional interference is not record and report it (be sure to include your call sign). The FCC does take that sort of stuff seriously.

This is an open repeater, sister repeater of the notorious 435 free speech repeater lol. Where anything goes..including language and talk subjects that would otherwise not be allowed on any other repeater. There's live feed through RR. 450 is turning into what the old 435 used to be.

And if you look up the history of 435 you will notice that the FCC does not care what goes on at 435. Plenty of threads around the various HAM websites related to 435 and the lack of FCC enforcement. Its orumored that the FCC lets doesn't enforce enforce rules in order to keep that user base on 435. Now that 435 is under a new ownership and has moved to a new location that user base has moved to its sister repeater 450

Yeah last night, if anybody was listening to 450...some PURE COMEDY on that repeater LOL.

Two guys arguing over toilet paper vs. baby wipes....hilarity and lots of name-calling ensued. :D

    KI4KWF checkin' in.

Got my Tech + General in highschool but haven't keyed a mic in about 5 years. HF equipment was too expensive for me and the only people on vhf around me was really old dudes talking about how their wives got on their nerves that day...

Most modern radios have at least a hundred memories the only thing I can say if you don't like the program change the channel. I know it sucks but unless they are intentionally interfering with your transmission there is not a lot the FCC will do. I think you'll find most of the ham guys are a good bit older then you and their interests are not the same but if you can get more of your friends on the air that can change I'm an old guy but at least I am not resistant to change. Most of the old guys (the ones that are good hams) enjoy helping new hams with their projects and a lot of them are very knowledgeable. The technology advances daily I can check in on our local repeater from pretty much anywhere in the world with my Android. If they have a club get active in it plan some events. As a tech class you can build your own repeater, contact the frequency coordinator and put it on the air. You should get your license pretty soon it takes about a week have fun with it enjoy the hobby.

I very much agree with you on everything above. They are very knowledgeable. But we have a few repeaters here that harbor some disgusting people...but I've learned to stop listening to them. Been listening to the WIN system a lot lately. I can't wait to have some more friends on the air so the conversation is a bit more my cup of tea.

Despite all that, I have learned a lot of stuff just listening to the topics discussed by the old and wise :)

    Thank you!

Was too excited, had to step outside of my office for 5 min to test it. Successfully transmitted loud and clear to 147.090 repeater on Catalina Island, spoke to a gentleman named Hank operating a mobile in Camp Pendleton. Only had time to say hi and ask for a signal report, but still very cool!

Been wanting to get licenced for years and had the oppertunity to sit in on a 1 week traing class here at work. (We have our County's Emergency Operations Center here) I am in charge of full setup IT wise so they wanted us to get licenced after purchasing 20k work of equipment. Happy to say I passed it on Friday!
