Okay, here are lots of detailed, up-close, and personal pics of the 99. Any thoughts on the condition of any of these items, especially engine and frame, are very much welcome. Also, if you'd take some action on something, let me know that as well.

(I'll break these up into a few posts if that helps any.)

Is that the frame rust inspection by Toyota that I've read about?

Then no, I haven't gotten to that yet. I guess I just need to contact our local Toyota dealer and have them do the deed?

Yes. Take some pics above the rear leaf spring perch on the inside of the frame. It is the inner box that goes.

More pics...more to come, too. Don't know if this has the leaf spring area you mentioned, but if not, I'll go snap a few more.

Can you get a picture of the inside (of the frame) of this perch? Both sides? That is where they typically fail.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Thats a failure right there. The hole shouldn't be there!

That hole concerns me too.....you need to get that to the dealer for a frame check. The rust spots on the body above the windshield need addressed, but not if the frame is garbage. Possible oil leak at the valve cover near the oil cap. Did the truck have a cap on it....something was on the back of it that isn't there now (cap, different bed liner).

Yeah, but he just purchased it. Toyota has something with new purchases of first gen's that fail. I have heard that they make the owner wait 6 months before they purchase it back. But, take that with a grain of salt.
