so I found this Mustang hood scoop...

Set it up on my hood and my buddy at work took a picture and color matched it with PhotoShop.

Thoughts?

Personally, I don't think it looks too bad! Might look better if I took the bug deflector off though.

In the end it would be about as functional as the Sport hood scoops

It doesn't look bad, but I wouldn't do it. Unless you do it right (fill in the gaps and repaint the hood) it will always looks like a stick on and doing it right would cost more then just getting a hood with a schwepz.

 

that actually doesnt look too bad, most of the aftermarket hood scoops look like they are really cheap (from what I have seen). If you can actually color match it, I think that it would look pretty good (if done right). Only thing is, make sure it is centered.

I think that the reason it looks decent (again, my opinion) is that it seems similar in size and shape to the TRD sport scoops

make sure you post pictures of the process if you decide to go for it....and please let us know on the price if you do it

 

It's nice to see this on a truck. Not trying to be rude AT&T here. I was actually thinking about buying a stick on hood, but the more research I did the less I liked the idea. That picture confirms that I'm not a fan. Again, no offense. Just my opinion.

 

It would actually hug the hood little closer once done; there wouldn't be a huge gap under it like there is in the picture above. A mount on either side is keeping it from sitting flush as it is. So it wouldn't look as "sitck-on-ish" in the end, lol. To be honest, I sort of like the look of some sort of outline around it more than just the flowing ones. Kind of in the same way how I'm not a huge fan of those crazy fiberglass sub boxes and dashes and what-not... just too "flowing" looking... needs some sort of lines to break things up...

 

Make sure it bolt on really good or fiberglassed on good. My buddy had something on his car like that yrs ago and it ripped right off when he was driving since there is no air inlet to the motor.

 

Looks good! BORNWILDGUY did this too. Check it out. Not sure if it's the same Mustang scoop but very similar! Looks excellent on his truck!

doesnt look outta place...........just make sure u can deal with the blind spots on hills if u play.......Thats the main reason I dont want 1. Been in a friends sport and hated it on steep inclines.....its hard enough when ur facing nothing but clouds.

Got some other things to take care of tomorrow, but if time permits I might get it painted to match, work out the mounts a little (will have to figure out at least 3 along the front; probably some sort of stud/bolt of some sort epoxied to the bottom side), maybe trim the grill for it a little (need to pretty much cut it in half since on the Mustang it dips down into the hood), and then set it on the hood and see how it would really look once it's flush. Want to get a good feel for it before I go drill any holes in my hood Because I'm not going to just stick it on with double sided trim tape... that would suck to be doing 70mph on the interstate and have that damn thing fly off, lol. It will be securely bolted down

 

that scoop looks better than the 12/13 scoops

Maybe that sounds elitist, but I never understood the reason for a non-functional hood scoop. That was the main reason I didn't even consider the Sport model.

I've had a few snide remarks about the factory hood scoop on my Subaru, but I just point to the TMIC sitting underneath it.

If you can figure out a way to make it functional, that's another story.

 

I thought about leaving it open and making it functional, but I don't think it would even do anything because of the aerodynamics of a truck. Typically, over the hood is just going to be a low pressure zone. Piping it to the intake somehow wouldn't really do anything. It might create some sort of scavenging effect though and pull some heat out from under the hood, but if that's what you were going for then a cowel induction style would be better suited.

I agree though; being non functional, there's not a whole lot of purpose for it. It's purely aesthetic, exactly the same story with the Sport hoods. And to be honest, I'm not a huge fan of the Sport hoods because they're too round shaped... I sort of like the more defined edges on this scoop.

But it's always a personal preference thing. Trust me, I'm the first person to pick at others for sticking useless crap on their cars and trucks; I'm a big time stick-on fender vent hater, and even stick-on hood scoop hater. But every once in a while I do see one that just looks, maybe not like it's meant to be there, but it just works. Honestly, that's how I see this scoop on this truck. Obviously it's not meant for it, but in my personal opinion, it works.


In the end, no matter what I decide to do, if I like it that's all that maters, and haters are always gonna hate

 

Nothing wrong with that. I used to have a set of 6" driving lights on the front of my car that most everyone that saw them mocked. I ended up removing them a few years back because I wanted to change things up, but I totally understand the mindset.

It does fit the truck much more than the Sport scoop with the edges that you talk about.

 

Looks good. The mustang hood scoop is the best looking aftermarket one that looks good on the tacomas and also the contour of the hood on the tacoma is similar to the mustang. Win win situation. Just get it painted to match the hood and your good to go. Make sure when you put it on the hood don't go too far bak towards the windshield as their is a slight contour in the hood. What I found what worked best was place it on the hood and center it up measuring on all sides and when you have it where you want it take blue painters tape and just put in on the hood around the scoop so you have a perfect outline around it for installing..

Looks as good as the scoops on the sports.

 

If you are able to do a good job on the finish I think it would look good. BUT if you skimp it could look like crap.
