If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
Haha, I was kidding about my truck going through that shizz. I would still like to scope out the rest of the trails though, wish I could see more pics.

I hear ya on the rear bumper though, still not sure if I can financially commit to doing welding classes this semester, but we'll see. I'm using this tax return to get caught up on our house fund and put aside some money for a trip to Australia next year...maybe use a little for mods, but not much (SS brake lines and a shackle flip maybe???)

Galena looks cool, I'd be down to plan a trip this spring after the first snow melt. I also like the idea of doing the High Steel bridge again. Comparatively, it's pretty close and not too crazy but still offers some good exploring and photo ops.

We didn't make it very far with the overland group, but that doesn't mean we "couldn't" make it farther. There's a lot of FS trails in that area.

I assume youre talking about driving around the washout and back to it because you can drive up to it from highway 2 and then go past the town of index to get to it but you cant go around the washout from that point. Have to go around which is a few hour drive. I havent drove around so I dont know what the road or trail would look like. I know a great hike to sunset Mines at the washout though. Can actually walk through some of the mines and such and there is supposed to be a few more good hikes on the otherside of the washout as well. As far as trails to drive on over there, I have no idea since I havent explored that side of the washout. Im usually in the Index area a lot so I have a decent idea of the area but I havent dont much trail exploring since I usually just hike, camp, or fish out there.

^^ I was actually thinking of going past Index around via Skykomish and Beckler Road. It does not look like it can be reached at this time of year based on what I've read but Jacks Pass looks like it could be a decent snow run.

We should think of making an outing in a few months. Sounds like there is potential for a few different trips to the area. I'll keep it on the back burner for us...

When Digiratus and I were in Wilkeson, the roads were icy snow. Not really fun. Not sure if the roads around Surprise Lake area would be better, but it would be a safer option.

According to the Maverick app on my phone, we were at around 3000-3200' when we started to hit that icy sno crap.

When I look at the terrain map for the road up to Surprise Lake, it looks like where the trail takes off from FS7810 the elevation is about 3400' and Surprise Lake itself is 4400-4500'. Surprise lake is only ~10 miles SE from where we were, as the crow flies.
