Wish you posted before I bought from Toyota. I looked local for the Brass 1/8" BSPT (British Standard Pipe Thread) no one had them

Okay - I've read both of the major threads on this mod and will be doing this soon, but here's my confusion:

Some people use union p/n 90404-51026 (1/4" barb) and this seems to thread down all the way to the nut.
Some people use union p/n 90404-51319 (3/8" barb) and this seems to thread in but has quite a few threads still showing.
Both of the above p/n's are metal and have 1/8" NPT threads and everyone's using teflon tape for installation.

The poster above me has used a brass fitting with 1/8" BSPT threads with no problems. If the threads are BPST threads, then people using the 1/8" NPT fitting may run into problems down the road.

In reading all of the postings with regards to this mod, the majority of people have no problems, but some have had the fittings not thread in correctly, not been able to tighten the fitting or they have been loose and wobbly, and in one case, not been able to remove the loose fitting after installing it.

Everyone seems to have an opinion, due to what worked for them, but does anyone know - definitively - what the thread should be on this fitting and which part should be used??

Buy both, take yours out and compare the threads to the new one's. Return the other one. :notsure:

I got the one listed in the first post and it worked

The 'union' part I used had the same threads as the factory valve/breather I took off the differential.

My son burned up his rear differential in his 2005 because this vent became clogged. He traded it in for a 2013 so, I'm glad I joined this forum and came across this post.Thank You very much as this will probably save me $ in the future Very helpful!

Yes, much harder to clog it up if it is up inside the storage compartment and not down in the mud!

On the opening post, I took a photo of the parts bag, so nobody would get the wrong number...

On the first page of this thread is a photo of all the parts I bought, including a package of hose clamps... ones that will fit 1/2" to 1" diameter hoses... here's a close up of the end, in the compartment:

Did anyone ever get confirmation on whether or not the e-locker breather needs to be moved as well? It might have been in the 17 pages, but I easily could have missed it. Just waiting on the parts to do this mod next weekend.

Did this mod just now. For those wondering like I did, the stock breather threading is the same length as the new union you are replacing it with. It can be tightened all the way down to the differential housing. I was wondering why I saw about 1/4 of the threads on the earlier pics, thinking that it was longer and intruding into the gear area. It's not. +1 Rep for OP!

Did I do something right?!! LOL

Thank you! You will also note that I wrapped teflon tape on the threads so it would seal without over-tightening and risk of snapping it off!
