So for a couple of weeks I've been trying to narrow down what fog light kit will work for 2012+ Tacoma's that are not pre-wired and I finally have found the kit that will work. Now I have seen the thread where the fog lights just tapped into the low beams but there was no switch. However, this kit includes the switch as well as all the necessary wiring and tonight I was able to hook everything up and it work flawlessly.I will post pics tomorrow in daylight.
Here is the link,http://toyotaofmcdonoughparts.net/products/00016-35220-toyota-tacoma-fog-light-kit-2012,and they are Toyota dealer, I was also told this kit was released by Southeast Toyota.

    Killer price, looks complete.

Normally Toyota gets $150 just for the housing.
And another $150 for the other side.
Switch and harness are like $80.

were the instructions from the dealer sufficient? I took a look at them before I ordered the kit, and I think I can handle it, but any tips would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Yeah they changed the link but it's still there, just search Tacoma fog lights on there page. Also some tips would be I think the wiring diagram is backwards reversed,( image is reversed), you can also disconnect the plug where the wires that you have to tap into are, makes it much easier to work with.

yep I got the kit from ebay.. same kit.. I had partly installed today,, waiting for my buddy from work to snake the wire from engine compartment to driver side cab. Then tricky part is to get panel off to install the switch and hook the last part of the wires. I hope someone post pics of inside job on this part.

The link I posted has a good set of instructions on how to do it.Also TacoUGA, all you need are the lamps and the switch, your truck should already have the necessary wires from the factory.

Unfortunately my truck is not prewired as far as I can tell. I've searched around the headlights and found nothing, and the relay slot for fog lights is empty with no pins. I wish you were right!

My 2013 does not have the white wire (connector 1A-1 pin 29) listed in step 13 on page 4 this is the wire that I am supposed to T-tap the orange/black wire with the diode adapter into. What is this wire supposed to feed?

What is an alternative for me to plug into? Everything else has been completed per instructions.

Mine also does not have the second fuse box inn the engine compartment.

The light switch does not power up which seems to be the purpose with this wire.

    Thanks,
    Brian

Ya, as far as we can tell, none of the regular cab trucks are prewired, and many trucks that are not SR5 are not prewired.
Seems kinda hit and miss, but checking the relay socket is the way to tell.

    If you are not pre-wired:
    http://www.toyotatrdparts.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=-59
    Switch and pigtail.
This is a 6-wire FJ Cruiser switch, dash illumination and indicator light.

This is a good unit to use for a DIY harness build for a base model or other truck that is not pre-wired.

If your truck is pre-wired, then you want a 4-wire Tacoma switch.

To DIY the harness, here's a couple of options.
Some are easier than others, it is possible to wire the switch with only 1 wire passing through the firewall (to the relay), a ground connection, and a tap at the fuse box to the taillight circuit, but this is not legal in all states and can pose a problem if you have inspections.

The next simplest runs 2 wires through the firewall (relay and low beam positive) and it is 50-state legal. That and one ground connection under the dash and you're good to go, but the switch illumination will not run with the dimmer... it'll be on (full) any time the headlights are on.

When I received my kit, the instructions seemed wrong and referenced cutting a column wire and inserting a "diode adapter" into that, Rather than cutting, I checked the web instructions and they were different with no mention of a diode adapter (kit did not include one). The instructions at the link for the product appear to be different now. I actually communicated with the vendor and they were going to put the correct instructions into the kits after that.

My lights work. Powers up the switch (illumination) when light are on. Fogs only work with low beams. When fogs operate, indicator on switch is on - Just ran out and checked the wires:

    • Green/Black fog harness is t-tapped to CON 1A1-35 (Red/Black)
    • Orange/Black fog harness is terminated to a ring and grounded to chassis in the vicinity (hooked to bolt on left lower dash bracket).
The above is specifically for the kit without a diode adapter which was from the toyotaofmcdonough for 12 & up Tacomas - I cannot guarantee your results if you follow this procedure. The Orange/Black is not per the instructions that I have - but what I figured out. The instructions I have say to tap the white 1A1-29 with the Orange\Black. I think i looked for this wire for a while as well.

Did your kit actually come with a diode adapter? Mine did not. If yours came with the diode adapter - you may not want to do the above.

    Hope this helps you out.

How long did this install take you?

My kit will be here Monday and I'm trying to figure out if I want to attempt this on a week night or wait for this weekend.

The kit i have contains the lights, relay, wire hardness to attach lights and relay with red wire to battery the black wire for ground. The end part goes to firewall. The other set of wire hardness goes inside of truck dash. With oem rocket switch . That part got three part to attach. the bkack meets the coming from thru firewall. The white wire to is the ground while the last one should be t conceted with low beam wire. The instruction that with it tells to t conceted with parking/ running light. Which i wont i rather keep 50 state legal low / fog operation
Putting the lights and hardness is easy but the interior will be the hardest. I say about 2 hrs to get it up and running

I'm with you on keeping 50 state legal. I think I can swing 2 to 3 hours on a week night. I want to take my time and not screw anything up.
