Who is the best when it comes to old school cars? The Wife and I need assistance on the 71 Firebird.

We replaced the spark plug cables and she was running great. Replaced the points and she runs great but now is having issues shifting. Had NO issues shifting before points were changed. Checked Tranny fluid and its good, everything seems in order. She is having issues getting into gear, reverse is the worst and is slipping when shifting up but down shifting is fine. how can changing the points affect shifting as she was running perfect before we changed the points?

Also checked point gap settings, timing, fluids, everything we could think of. Motor sounds great, rev's great, running great, just shifting like hell. I know when transmissions go out typical reverse is the first gear to bite the dust, but it's so weird that its this drastic after changing the points.

I need someone to show us how to tune the carburetor on this as well.

Last but not least, planning out another mod day here real soon. Going to be working on the 48 GMC Truck as the main project and having a BBQ this time. I'll create a thread when I have a date.

I dont know everything but I know a damn good amount. I mean I've been a tech for over 10 years... I used to be into old chevys big time.. I'd enjoy fixing that car lol.

I just re read that. I'm just got back from inde so I'm tired... But does the tranny shift hard? Wait to long to shift or not long enough? It could be lots of things, but changing timing didnt cause it, maybe all that raw horse power just makes it slipping more noticable...
good thing is its probably a turbo 350, which are super cheap, and easy to rebuild...
    or u can swap in a 5 or 6 spd.. I converted my 91z into a 5 spd.. I blew up a few t5s..so id rock the t56

Did you know that the intro song to Call of Duty Black Ops 2 was done by Trent Reznor from NIN?

Well now you know. And knowing is half the battle.

I'm wondering if it is the shift cable but we didn't mess with it.

I haven't drove it much, she's been doing that part so I'll have her type up something. Or mini mod day might happen real soon :)

Would 2" lift u-bolts be long enough for my all pro leafs? Reason I am asking this is because I used my stock u bolts for my AAL and had no problems.
