sorry, yes the burning magnesium will lengthen and distort the gas port causing backpressure issues. I would discourage shooting them a lot, keeping a few in the mags ( some combat units do this) is normally fine, but you will the barrel down faster.

 

I planned on mixing mine up in my mags. Like the 9th 20th and 28th round. Not planning on shooting them straight through.

 

Yes, the magnesium will lengthen the gas port, and cause issues with back pressure and can interrupt the weapon cycle. Some combat units will run a few tracers per mag to help identify how many rounds you have left, or some guys will carry a mag of tracer to help ID targets for CAS (close air support) but it is not reccomended to run tracers through normal rifle (milspec included) barrels.

Thanks for the info!!! Is there anything that can be done to help prevent it? (obviously by not shooting tracers) specific barrel lube better than another? ETC

 

You could run a heavy MG barrel, but thats about it. the simple fact is normal barrels arent really designed for that type of abuse. running a few tracers here and there wont ruin your barrel, just wear it faster.

 

i got a stripped carrier from Phase 5 tactical and got lucky and got a bolt off ebay.

Midway is also supposed to get a few of their bolts in stock here on the 7th. but could get bumped like it has been.

I bought one from NFA and like it. As my first build I wanted to get familiar with the platform so I wanted to keep costs down too. Put bullets downrange and where I want them just like any other lower. Yep its plastic and probably will never be in a life/death situation where I would ba ble to use it so it doesn't matter.

Meh, I have 4 30rd mags and I'm fine with that. No need to hoard them.

And I like that. Careful of the "Car Shoppers" they might get ideas of whats inside and want to take a peak, or more.
