Hello, I have a 1999 Tacoma with a 2.7, xtra cab, 4x4 with 5 sp. manual transmission. Can't seem to find the gear ratio for the front axle assembly. Also looking for a place to buy a used assembly, mine has a bad ring & pinion. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mark

    Welcome to Tacoma world!

Best bet for an axel would probably be a used parts store or wrecking yard.

The axle code for your rig can be found on the manufacture's sticker located on the driver's side door jamb as follows:
    First digit:
    • A = 7.5" ring gear
    • B = 8" ring gear
    Next two digits:
    • 01 = 3:42
    • 02 = 3:58
    • 03 = 4:10
    • 04 = 4:56
    • 05 = 3:15
    • 06 = 3:91
    • 07 = 4.30
    Last digit:
    • A = 2 Pinion, Open
    • B = 4 Pinion, Open
    • C = 2 Pinion OEM Limited Slip
some '98-00 models have shown a BO code of "???" on the door plate; so far this turns out to be a 3.91 gear ratio, at least for the 5sp. RZN171L-CRPDKAB with factory 31s/265s should be 4.56 with the AT.

Thanks Chris. I have a BO2A/W59 which I take to be a 8", 3.58 ratio, 2 pinion open. I've been striking out here in central California at wrecking yards. Trying on the net but no luck yet. Thanks for the welcome. Had my 99 since 02. My son has a 2006 taco 4x4 in race day blue.

You may want to check out TTORA.com and see if someone on there might be selling one. They are an Off road site, and many yank their front diffs in favor of a Solid Axel Conversion. :)
