alpine power pack?

Just curious, what speakers are you going with?

 

still blasts the bajesus out of my Rockford Fosgates in the front and rear doors

 

ordered Rockford Fosgate P165-S speakers, went to listen to a variety of speakers today, and in the price range i was wiling to spend, these sounded amazing (everyone hears things different) i was comparing them to a lower end Focal, and i still liked the fosgates better.

along with the power pack and RF speakers, also ordered the Sound Ordnance 8" sub, crutchfield has the other model for 149.99 and since i dont need/want window breaking bass, this will do perfect!
placed an order with Mr. Marv for the adapter brackets he makes, and will be ordering Raamat and ensolite once i hear back from them. should have a fairly nice setup for a reasonable budget

 

Looking like you're going to have a pretty nice set up, just wanted to chime in on the alpine power pack, it the most underrated piece of audio equipment on the market, great choice. I'm a car audio specialist at Best Buy, just being a nosey salesman.. lol

 

I'm sorry to break it to you, but those 50 watts from you're HU are peak watts which means that you only have about 17 watts RMS.

ktp-445u model. I'm going to make it work with my stock head unit. I'm still not too happy about cutting speaker wire but whatever. I'm going to used terminal disconnects so that I can undo things later on.

 

Yeah your speakers will sound noticeably better with the true 50 watts vs the 17. If they sound good to you then that's all that matters!

 

Still, 45x4 wouldn't be enough to get the full potential from my speakers anyway.

Fronts are

Rockford Fosgate P1694 series which rated of 75 watts RMS and 150 peak, and the rears are Rockford Fosgate P152 series which are rated at 40 watts RMS and 80 peak. If I ever hook an amp to them, it'll be around a 450 watt'er

 

well my latests crutch field shipment has arrived, should have the power pack and new speakers and SO 8" sub installed by monday providing the sound deadening arrives before sunday. i will post up my thoughts once its installed.

i have set the adjustments on the back to 80hz HPF for the front channels, rear channels remain off as they will not be used, RCA input selection, and 2ch mode for the 90w x 2 ch setup. all "tuning" will be done on the headunits EQ.

 

Are you referring to the KTP445? Does it have a selection for 90x2?

KTP445U i believe it is... (the universal one) the amp itself should be the same, only the wiring should be different.

on the underside of the unit, theres a "slot" (about 3/8"width by 1" length) with 6 switches, different combinations for different functions. there is a 2ch and 4 ch selection, when in 2 channel, it sets it up for 90x2 automatically as far as i can tell.

the sound deadedning arrived today, so i will start that process tomorrow while everyone else is watching the Super Bowl since im not a football fan. then i will be mounting the amp and such. should have it squared away tomorrow.

 

the older non-U ones only have a single switch to select input gain.

for anyone curious, i am mounting the power pack next to the shifter (Auto trans) attaching it to the center console plastics, once the holes are drilled, i will secure it with small stainless nut/bolts which will be hidden by the passenger seat. should be able to get away with 3ft RCA cables from the head unit to the power pack.

 

If you mount it there will you have to run wires to it for the power and ground or what? I'm sort of confused about that part since it doesn't plug in line with the Alpine head unit like the non "U" version.

 

RCA inputs into the unit(from head unit), speaker wire out(connect to factory wiring harness adapter instead of from the head units wiring harness), but it also has power/ground/12v source input that you just tap into the head unit wiring harness as far as i can tell by the directions.

 

so pretty much pop the 2 sets of RCA's in, one in the front and one in the rear, splice the turn on lead into the head units turn on lead and done? that seems to easy!

 

I still contest the best location for the power pack is above the glove box. Open the glove box, there is one bolt holding the black plastic cap. The amp can be mounted on top, concealed. More than enough wiring to reach the head unit. I used heavy duty mounting tape. No need for bolts or screws. Been strong for the last 2 years.

 

ya, i just dont trust the weight of it bouncing around as i tend to push the limits of my truck off road and things bounce around quite a bit.

 

exactly! it wires the same as a larger more functional amp, except the headunit power has enough juice to power it, so no external wiring is needed. unless your headunit fuse is less than suggested (15a i think) then you need to run a power lead to the battery.
