Fuel "sloshing" can be controlled by proper use of internal baffles, I'm sure they adressed this, fuel pickup could be an issue on inclines/declines. I will have to read the article for the real story. Yep, a big tank can be wonderful for extended off-road travel or just a convenience for those who travel on the pavement. Hard to beleive the BS some layed on this thread, especially when most of us like the idea, if not the exact execution....

Best wishes on selling a bunch of these!

There are plenty of reasons a big tank is handy. Fuel range is one. You could 'hedge' the price of fuel too-in a place like Death Valley, not only are there ranging problems (depending on where you go in the park) but fuel is north of $4/gallon most of the time. However, in Ridgecrest, prices are more "reasonable".

One thing I would be hesitant to suggest is the storage of large amounts of fuel. By storage, I mean leave it in the tank for several weeks without a fuel stabilizer.

Anyway, lots of options. This tank gives you 14+ additional gallons of fuel. You could get that with Jerry cans, Rotopax or even a fuel bladder. All depending on your needs.

hmmmm ill keep my eye on this, I can get the long ranger TR63 from ARB for aorund 1400 before shipping, but its no guarantee it even fits, it carries 140L which is 37gal, so not a huge difference

But with a little ingenuity and taking the bed off the truck I could make the long ranger mounts it need and it wouldnt be that much more

ill sub for now, I think the price is a little steep, but I am always looking for a way to save a few hours in my life :p

some of you posting interest in the tank contuine to talk about the high price tag. please rember its a group buy so if we can get enough people we can save-a the money. this is a high quality tank with lots of thought put into it. about not being DOT aproved, not sure if any after market add on tank is DOT aproved. shane has made 10 of these to date with wonderful results. the high price is why im trying to get a few people who to see the tank as an asset to think again about the price.

heres the thing, im confused by the pricing is it 2500 is it 1800

whats the discount after 5 tanks, 10 tanks, 15 tanks

thats usually how group buys work, im giving you a baseline of the TR63 its 1400 yes i have to modify to make it work, but i bet im no more than 1600 invested, so please do tell all, this thread to begin with a cluster fuck, and the expo portal one, i havent gotten through it all either, as I dont usually spend much time on that website

give me structured groupbuy pricing, ill think about it harder, i think ive only ever backed out on a groupbuy item once, but that was to switch vendors, delivery time etc.... so dont just take my small petty talk about price wrong, not much i havent spent on my truck yet, I dont mind shelling out some more dough, but id hate to invest and find out the price is even higher than I was expecting

i now seen youve edited your first post, so the group buy price is 2150 for 5 tanks??? thats the skid, mounting accessories

what if I dont want a skid, its already going to be a nightmare to ship it, goign across the border it CANNOT SAY ANYTHING about fuel or storage tank, or else it will get turned around, i suspose I can drive to the border to pick it up, but either way anyway of getting this priced without the skid, i can fab one myself farily simply when i have it here

on the skid plate. the tank and skid plate is 1800. the rest is for the new straps to hang the tank, fitting for breather lines and the lines. also instructions for install all you nedd to install the tanks are included. in sure shane can re-price for NO skid plate. yeah shipping is a problem for the border, but im sure we can work that out.
the pricing is this, as above the tank and skid and powercoated with all you need for 5-10 is 2150.00 if we can get more than it goes down. no one yet has steped up to say yes, so im thinking the best we can do for now is 2150.00. before now he would only do installed in his shop for 3000.00.
he is a stand up guy. if you read the orignal post he presure test well before powercoating. im sure if a seam had a falure he would fix the problem.

ok see thats better so the base cost is 1800 than add the extras which starts to make a lot more sense, now we are talking the same price range as the long ranger fuel tank, within 50 bucks, soooo im closer to a yes than I was now

i understand youve taken some criticism about this and the price, but really its been a cluster

    so to reiterate

    1800 with skid(no mounting hardware)
2500 before group buy (2150) group buy prices (includes all mounting hardware, instructions and extra length in hoses)

now if someone like myself who is building more of a long fuel range truck has some better number to play with ;)

now the best thing you can do, put a list together on the OP, put a list of Yes's and maybe's, this will weed people into now looking closer at is this something they are willing to do or not

    Yes

Now do we know lead times, do we know a closing date??

Also sorry if I sound condescending, but this forum is very much a numbers and quantity forum part of the reason youve gotten some of the responses you have, I have genuinely interested, but more so just need to look at my month end figures ive spent alot this year already

These things normally ride until there are enough people ready to buy. Could take months.

I would contact them directly when you are ready to make a purchase though. Just to see what the difference is. 1800 is what the price is in the thread where it was created. 1800- 2500 is a BIG gap. 700 to be exact. If you have access to the raw materials, plate steel, I would look at possibly bartering with them on providing the material and they do the rest and see what kind of break you get.

2 months ago, a buddy had 3 huge sheets of 14 gauge and 4 x 16 gauge steel he wanted gone off his property. If I had storage area for them, I would have snagged them. Instead,. craigslist they went for $100 total. They were on his property when he bought the place.

If I had the space, and a welder - I would have tried to tackle this project myself. With all the pics posted, the design looks straight foreword and replicating it would be fairly trouble free. They worked out the kinks already, even the skid plate. *going to archive the thread just in case it is pulled for trade secrets*

Most of the money being charged is for the man hours labor.

so, maybe you can tell ive never started or run a group buy thanks for your input. insted of a list in the first post i said just pm me your interest. but yes this could take a while to get even a few people. i think the saving are worth the wait though. i have a thread in expedition portal with pretty much the same things said their as well,to much money,i could make that for 300.

Long ranger won't fit. Not from the hilux anyway. Frame rails are slightly narrower. Latest overland journal said that they unveiled at sema one for the tacoma, but when I called to double check the info, no one could verify it. If I had the cash I'd be all over this.
