Sould I take my 2006 to dealer for floor mat recall?

I checked my vin with the dealer site and it popped up. Just wondering if it will be worth my time. What do they do?

 

I would (and did.) I'm surprised you never got the recall notice. The brake over-ride thing they do is worth it in my opinion.

 

Screw that. They cover a stupid floor mat but don't cover a coil spring for the air bags. That's just stupid.

what the heck, i cant even tell. besides if it all goes crazy, and my truck gets possessed and slams me into a building..i dont want some junior lawyer to look up the fact that i ignored some stupid recall. i want my lawsuit to go smoothly in my favor,,just sayin.

 

I wouldn't and haven't. I just don't trust the dealer messing with my truck and I have weather tech's so the mats itself aren't an issue.

 

I have the OEM all-weather mats and they didnt replace them but they did replace the gas pedal, I believe its shorter.

 

I wanted the logic upgrade but not the pedal cut. Unfortunately, they have to do both.

I haven't noticed anything since they did it. Don't worry about it.

 

OK, so I ignored the recall when they came in.

However, yesterday I'm pulling out of a parking lot, and the ignition starts accelerating, and I've got my foot on the break. I pressed harder and it seemed I was being pushed out into the main road of traffic. I saw I had time, and just went. A soon as I touched the gas pedal and took my foot off, it was back to normal.

So now I'm thinking, if I don't have the recall done, even though its on actually a non-related issue, and I get into an accident and hurt some one, I'd be liable for not doing the recall.

Also, I got the recall for the coil spring in the steering column which could cause the air bag to fail.

I'm thinking of having both recalls done at the same time.

I just have bad feeling about letting a dealer touch my truck which has 122,000 miles on it, but runs great otherwise.

Do dealer mechanics sabotage older vehicles as a method of having the owner look at buying a new truck?

I have my suspicions, especially years ago when I took a Ford F100 in for a tune up at a dealer, and couldn't even drive it out of the parking lot when I picked it up. They had all kinds of things messed up and the truck never ran right afterwards.

The mechanics really don't benefit from the car sales. They may tell you it needs so and so much work done,but no sabotage.

 

I didn't bother getting the recall done on mine, until the spiral cable failed which was covered under that recall. So, I caved, and got them both done at once. The cut pedal isn't an issue at all, and the reflash made a noticable improvement in how smoothly the engine idles, and it starts easier (cranked a bit long intermittantly) among other small things. Guys with automatics report better shifting after the reflash too. I say get it done.

 

I wouldn't make a special trip for it, but it's a good idea to have it done.

They cut the pedal down and reprogram the computer to cut power when the throttle is at 1/3 or more and your foot is on the brake.

I had mine done, if I wasn't looking for it, I would not know the pedal was modified. The same with the brake override, if I hadn't tried it, I'd never know it was there.

Someday if you want to sell the truck, the subject of recalls may come up. It would be nice to point to the sticker under the hood and tell the buyer it's taken care of. Also, who knows, you or someone else may be driving the truck and have a true failure of the accelerator pedal or sensors, and the brake override may save the day.

A mechanic makes his money performing repairs. There is no benefit to him if your vehicle starts running poorly after he's touched it. Either he will be blamed for causing a problem, or you'll get pissed and trade it in. No benefit to the mechanic either way.

I'm an appliance repair tech. If I send a customer down the the sales department to buy a new fridge, I don't get a commission on that. I make more money patching the old one up than I do recommending a replacement. Sometimes it's the honest thing to do though.

 

I did because my original all weather mats cracked and I wanted the free mats. Not as good as the original all weather mats, but they were new and free.

 

Well, I scheduled an appointment to have both recalls done.

BTW, I did a test today on the acceleration, in case it should it happen again. I just put my foot on the brake and turned off the engine. You still have brake power and steering, although hard.

In my opinion its a faster response than trying to get into neutral first.

The thing is, when this happened to me, I was on a gravel parking lot and as I applied my brakes at the exist, it accelerated. However, when I slammed on the brakes, the anti-lock brakes kicked in and the acceleration was moving me out into the main road. Luckily I had time to just get into my lane and tap the gas pedal, which cut the acceleration.

Anyway, into the dealer on Thursday.

Gee, the pedal is so small already and there is mega clearance around the floor mat, which is why I never bothered with the recall. I figured its just a gimmick to get you into the show room to look at new trucks.

Yeah, I have a distrust for car dealers.

OK the brake override is what convinced me to have it done.

I'm retired and this is probably the last truck I'll ever own, so I want it running well as I take care of maintenance myself.

Don't trust repair shops all that much either, but sometimes they're a necessary evil.

I guess it depends on the dealer. I told them to go ahead, but also that I don't want the pedal to be cut. Had to sign that I refused modification to the pedal. I have weathertechs since then also..

 

So I dropped off my truck today.

I asked about the accelerator issue, and all they're gonna do is cut back the
pedal and ensure that mats are secured.

The dealership is 40 minutes away, and I hope I'm not sorry.

 

Done and they did reprogram the flash so the brake override.

They also replace the coil in the steering column..

Everything seems OK.
