Anyone else Hate hate hate the brakes on your second gen? I love the gradual setup of my throttle, where I feel 1-100% of throttle is 1-100% of throttle.
Brakes, however, i feel is 1-20% brake pedal travel is 1-5% brake power and 20-25% brake pedal travel is 5-150% of brake power. Compared to other vehicles, this turns into smacking my passenger's forehead on the dash quite often.
Anyone else have this problem? Any ideas how to fix it?
    I'm a brand new '13 Tacoma 4x4 double cab.

    Side note,
My dad's got a second gen tundra- I almost hate his more, as his throttle is 1-5% travel is 1-100% of throttle power. His brakes are normal 1-100% both ways though.

Is this just because mines brand new ? Does this get better??
    Thanks guys

Mines a '10 and I have no complaints. I generally let off the gas a while before I have to stop though and ease into the brakes..

I know with the stock pads on my truck you really had to hit the brake pedal. But I just switched over to centric fleet pads a few weeks ago and holly crap what a difference. Now I barely touch the pedal and Im stopping. It is a MUCH more linear feel. They grip super well, kinda like 4 piston calipers are supposed to work .
Now I never feel like I wont be able to stop on When I slam on them (on dry pavement). Im using stock rotors (just got the originals resurfaced) and I can even stop with my trailer and jeep (about 4.5-5k) with out having to the electric brakes hooked up without any worries.

^^^same thought. Every care is different. Try left foot braking, you could send someone through the windsheild with that the first few times

Yes I've got the offroad package...
I guess my question was does it get better? I've only got 1000 miles on her.

I sound like I'm left foot braking on my first car ever
but I've had no problem driving dozens of other friends & family cars & trucks & so far every single person that's been behind my wheel has trouble not honking the horn with their own damn nose haha

If nobody else can relate, it sounds like I may have reason to go bug the dealer to adjust it.

Tacoma has the best brakes of anything in the mid-size truck category. Best performance, shortest stopping distance.

    Haha yes I agree.

I don't think I'm making my problem clear.
It stops great. The problem I'm having is that I can push the brake pedal down a good 20% with ZERO braking power. Then as I push the brake pedal further to about 30% down, I get FULL braking.
There's a ton of travel left where I feel I should be able to push the pedal down and have a more gradual braking power.
I'm not stomping on the pedal, it's just annoying as hell when I gradually push the pedal down in a smooth motion and the brakes grab like I hit a wall.

does turning tires to black wall out count? How bout added snug top rebel.
This was the first thing I noticed in my 2013 taco, insane brakes! Not to mention the nosedive when you hit the brakes, it adds to the perception that you don't know how to drive. I've put 6000 miles on the taco, and I haven't smashed noses for a couple thousand miles, but I did have to panic stop once, and the brakes are pretty damn effective IMO.

I have a 2013 TRD off road as well and find the brakes grabby and non linear. After 5000 km I'm starting to get used to it, but they are the grabbiest brakes I've ever used, including race cars that are intentionally set up to have modulation only at max stopping power. I suspect that its the electrically boosted brakes that come with A-TRAC.

Haha ok well at least I'm not the only one. I thought something had to be wrong with the truck or myself. I really don't like it one bit. I suppose this is what the new generation of brakes feels like... I'm used to old school setups without ABS & with 100k+ miles more than this stuff!

Just a few little things. It's my DD
So you wanna pump them to a stop?

    J/k

I had a 2002 Toyota base and the brakes were super firm in it. And my new truck brakes are tight but not bad. I like it. Once you get use to it you should too. At least you know if you need to stop she has some good brakes. Drive something with air brakes now those will put you in a windshield.
