    Damn skippy.

Nice bikes all. I'm getting all tingly thinking about motorcycling again. Where does everyone ride at? Normal route is Wasilla-Fishook to Palmer-Fishook, up to the Hatcher's Pass Lodge, then down Palmer-Fishook to the Old Glenn and back to the highway by Knik River.

Eklutna Lake Road is sometimes fun if you can catch it right after they street sweep it. Didn't happen until late in the season last year though. Also, no guardrails.

Let me know if you know any great roads. I especially love the twisties.

Also Ben, nice bike xD. I want to get back into mountain biking. It's also orange in in the background of my motorcycle picture :D

Naked bikes FTW alright. Also, gives you something to warm your hands up on in April and October :D

    Edit*
Sweet, so many motorcyclists here. So excited.

ncie bike. I really want to get one this summer. I was suppose to last summer but it didnt work out. thats the 650R right? How do you like it. A lot of guys at work tell me its a good starter bike. I've never had a bike but I've rode before (dirtbikes/road) so I really want a R6 which is what I used to ride before but everyone says its a death trap for a first time bike owner. What are your guys thoughts?

Couldn't say... I road my sister's Rebel 250 for four months before I got mine (900) and the only other bikes I've ridden were my old man's 1000+cc Ducatis. I would recommend an MSF course before you buy one though, if for no other reason than the insurance break. When I took it it was $250 for a day course on their bikes, where they go over high and low speed maneuvers and motorcycle dynamics. 20% off my insurance though.

Getting 30 mpg on the highway

My bike is a 650 and it's my first one. I have a dirt bike and have ridden that for a while. I have heard a lot of guys say "you WILL kill yourself if you do not start on a 250". I have had just as many say "just start with a 500 or 650 and you'll be fine"

    That said...

I think that the R6 is tuned/geared as a "super sport" which will make it more torquey and less forgiving than a regular sport bike. However, I only know about Kawis.

As I understand it, the "super sports" are gennerally 599cc whereas the toned-down sport bikes are 650s. (someone correct me if I am wrong here)

My bike is the naked version of the ninja 6r, which is a 650 sport bike. Kawasaki also has the ZX6r which is a 600cc and is the super sport version. My bike is VERY forgiving of all my NOOB mistakes. Doesn't wheelie if I pop the clutch too hard and is forgiving of the occasional sloppy shift. As I understand it, the ZX6r wouldn't be as forgiving of such mistakes, which can be deadly.

Like i said, I have ridden dirt bikes for a while and was pretty good with the shifting and such. The only thing the dirt bike really helped with is I didn't have to think about shifting as much as I would have otherwise. I had a little more time to think about blinkers and all the cars around me and such.

Anyway, I am by no means an expert and I am sure someone else knows more than me about this.

    This X1000000 for sure!

I took it two years ago. It was $350 and they supplied the bikes. It was a friday evening/saturday and sunday morning or evening when I did it.

The classes should be open now (or soon) and fill up fast!

But seriously, get a bike. One of the best things ever :D

If you do take it, get the enduro bike. It's all parking lot stuff and the enduro/dirt bike is built for it.

Another bike, and everyone always cringes is a Ninja or CBR 250. Awesome bikes for starting out. Brand new at $4000 dollars, and on a tight twisty road they can easily outrun a 1000.

Also 70-80mpg. I think about buying one just to have fun and cut up on.

My Katana is my first bike and is a 600, it's fine for me. It always has more power to give in case I need to get out of a situation. I thought about a 250...but taking the ABATE course on it, it's too tiny for a 6' guy.

And I definitely recommend buying used for a first bike just in case you do dump it, you won't feel as bad as you would dumping a new bike.

Just don't go out and buy a liter bike...THOSE are death traps for new riders.

Ohh yeah thats already been takin care of. I've had my license just never bought the bike lol, and I used to ride my cousins GSXR600 down in texas and it was fun. I think a 250 will be to little for me. Well I mean im not a big guy or anything but I think a 250 would get boring pretty quick and if im gonna drop 4-5Gs on a bike id rather buy a bike thats going to last me awhile.

Fair enough. If you have some experience riding, 600-700 is probably great for you. Mine is a 900, but it's not tuned hard and is probably only slightly quicker in a line than a 600. That is with a rejet, air box removal and exhaust xD

I looked into one of these when looking to buy one. The owner dropped the rear sprocket down a size or two to make it even quicker from a stop, which makes clutch timing even more critical...not what I needed.

No matter what you do, spend some additional time in parking lots after the MSF class to learn your bike specifically.

    $4-5k can buy you a new 250, or a used 600.

This winter has sucked. Let's just melt all the snow and start riding already...

I LOVE winter. It is my favorite season. But I am SO OVER IT right now.

How I feel. If it's going to give us a garbage winter, at least clear the roads. Thought about running studs... Or a Ural maybe. Just can't see dropping 14Gs on an antiquated BMW 750 knock off.

thats what I was thinking about doing. spending somwhere around 5500-6k and getting a decent 600. We'll see how this summer goes. I want my topper for my truck first and thats another 2500 painted to match and installed so well see what happens. It would be cool to get tacoma club memebers together for like a bike meet too, maybe help ease the pain of only having one truck meet a month haha.
