Is there a difference between the 2.7 engine in the T100 and the 2.7 engine in the Tacoma?

I am looking for a replacement 2.7 engine for my 1995 tacoma and have found one but it is out of a 1996 T100. Will the T100 engine bolt right up or will I have to do some modifications to it in order to make it work.

Basically the same motor, but mounts, wiring harness and ECM might be an issue. The oil pan and oil pickup would have to be swapped in from your Tacoma 3RZ according to an article I read. T100 oil pans have the sump in back rather than in front. There are kits for the conversion TO the T100 pan, not sure about FROM.

Hopefully someone will chime in who has actual experience.

Yes like he said you will have to adapt your truck to the different mounts. I've heard of a tacoma engine being put in a T100 truck.

I compared pictures of the T100 engine and the tacoma engine and they appear to be the same to me at least from what I can see in the comparison pictures.

Here are some pictures of the T100 engine I am looking at.
Anyone see anything that indicates I should pass on the engine?
It is still in the truck which is good because the truck can be started to demonstrate that the engine works. Some places I have seen take the engine out of the vehicle and the engine literally sits outside unprotected.

can't determine anything from looking at the outside, other
than it isn't covered in engine oil or coolant

many many junkyard and grubby engines are perfect inside

you need to figure out what that copper cable goes to,
examine oil, pull plugs and look inside cylinders with a borescope,
basically uncover and check items, look inside radiator...stuff like that
    check inside intake plenum....

Custom body work/damage ARB rear locker Bumpers Shocks Other parts Tires and Rims Air tank fully plumbed into truck "Golf ball mod"
Swap just the long block, and use all your original wiring and other parts off the tacoma.

What happened to your old motor?

Some of this Some of that
Like everyone else said, the engine is the same, but the 'accessories' might not be. I had to change the harness and throttle body on my motor swap.

On that big frayed cable, it looks like a battery cable.

Note the relocated oil dip stick, due to the sump placement.
You'll need the dip stick, oil pickup, and oil pan from your Tacoma.

My engine is losing compression. My local mechanic said that it was probably cheaper to find a replacement engine than it would be to tear it all apart and fix it. I am not sure whether that was the best option or just the quickest and easiest option for the mechanic.

losing compression. a borescope can assist knowing how
much it might cost before cracking head

if cylinder walls and valves look clean, cheap ring job and headgaskets

if cylinder walls look damaged or valves eroded/bent...skip this motor
