complimentary dealership washes suck!

I ask NOT TO WASH IT! at Porsche and Audi and I don't see why it would be any different at Toyota nonetheless I will give them the benefit of the doubt and take the complementary wash on my first visit

If the dealership can't wash your truck properly, then why do you trust them to do proper maintence on it?

 

Because there is warranty on the work but not on the wash.

 

My dealer never asks if I want a wash. The Honda dealer does though on my wife's Accord and it sucks. All they do is run it through the automatic wash and a quick half ass vacuum.

Someone early in this thread mentioned a hs kid washing it. Made me think back to my step daughters hs band fund raising washing cars. I drove by them when they did this and these kids were climbing on the hoods and all kinds of shit. I'll be damned! I'll never let them touch my truck.

 

Yup I've told my dealer to no longer wash it and stress it every time I'm in. Why? The first time, other than being less than 'washed' they scratched the tailgate big time. I brought it to their attention and was promptly told "we're not responsible for scratches." Well I nearly went through the roof. Their manager came over to 'discuss' the situation and basically told me I could take my business elsewhere if I continued to push a 'scratch' that I couldn't prove they did.

Start waxing (alot) immediately and keep it up. Wash, yes. Wax always. I try to wax more often than "wash" the truck and it seems to be working. Lately, I'm using Meguiars paste wax and it's working well. Micro fibre towels for removing dried wax only, too.

 

Had you ask yourself where you-re truck has been? Maybe the mechanic took it to a test drive......ah.. lets say, Hollister hills?

 

I always so no... Think of it this way, the guy washing your truck is basically using sandpaper down the side of ur truck.

 

i have lifetime oil changes and washes, although i do use the oil changes i only use the free wash when im covered in mud and my front yard hose wont get it off because the water pressure at my house blows worse then my ex girlfriend

 

Yeah i sold the truck awhile back due to not needing the terrible gas mileage and not really using it as a truck anymore and am now in an FR-S because racecar. I use Adams everything and love the products. All my service advisers laugh at me when i put the mirror hanger up but then again the wash here in Boerne swirls and scratches the shit out of the paint.

The reason i would let the "stealership" work on the truck was im friends with the tech and know the standards of work he does and i don't pay a dime thanks to the warranty. On the other hand the wash is contracted out to a bunch of kid who could give two shits.

I'd recommend Adams products for those who are into detailing their trucks when there not being wheeled. Adams makes some seriously awesome and badass products.

 

My dealer has an automatic car wash built into the end of the ExpressLube line. I always tell them "no wash" and "no engine air filter inspection".

 

Talked with a guy waiting at the dealership the other day... seems they washed his truck but forgot to close the sun roof. Let's just say he wasn't a happy camper.

 

^Makes you wonder why they opened the sunroof to begin with... unless it was in for sunroof-related problems.

 

After about a year of having the urd intake and not being able to go through a touch free wash, and always having to tell the dealership not to wash the truck whenever I would go in for tsb/recall/flushes, im happy to let them wash it.

The urd sounded great, but damnit u had to babysit the thing.

 

letting the dealership wash your truck is as bad as letting the dealership wash your truck.

 

this is why I always tell the service rep to not wash my truck after servicing the truck. and no damn service reminder sticker on the windshield

 

As a detailer at a auto body shop it kinda bums me out we have such a bad reputation haha. We do a complimentary detail with a vacuum/interior clean and the outside after the car is painted and re-assembled.

Personally I treat every car I work on like it's my own but we have had so many dip shits work in detail at my shop I cringe when I check over cars they "cleaned". Detailing is just a summer job and part time while I go to university but lot's of the guy's I work with want to go into auto body and they work so half assed I have no idea how they hope to get an apprenticeship. I mean if you can't be trusted to properly clean a car how could you be trusted to actually repair the thing.


One that got fired today was because he used an old brush (instead of a mitt) on a brand new black Tacoma that the owner wanted a very very small scratch fixed on the hood. When he washed the truck it was raining and cloudy so the damage the brush did was hidden but the sun came out and it was obvious that the truck needed to be polished from bumper to bumper. The best part is that the owner was there but left and gave the other guy a $20 tip for cleaning his truck right before he ruined the paint..... I ended up doing all the polishing to fix his mistake while he got fired. Thankfully I had time to make sure all the scratches were gone and all the polish taken off the truck before the customer returned.

 

This is why I dont wash my truck before taking it in!

 

better yet go to one of the hooters car washes....

 

When I picked up my new truck 2 days ago the dealership literally told me that I HAD to get the complimentary "detail." I kindly explained to them that I would rather not have them install custom swirl marks into my paint, and they yet again said I had no choice.

At that point I told them to kindly fuck off, because I've signed the paperwork and I'm in possession of the keys. I didn't even let them put fuel in it for fear that they'd take it around back.

I can't fucking stand that. Why on earth would you tell a customer that it's mandatory??
