What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Anyone have any tips on removing the starter on a V6 other than this vvv

Holy shit. I didn't do any of that. I took mine off in the dark holding the flashlight myself in about 15min. I disconnected the battery, took the wire off the starter, disconnected the plug, took the 2 bolts out of the starter and it literally fell out onto the ground.

 

Whats the problem?

If your having trouble getting to the bolts, just remove the exhaust bracket. 3 bolts i think. The theres two wires, power plug and the ground. Then i thinks its just two bolts holding it on.

 

I figured this was little out there

how did you reach the bolts I just cant get my hands in there with anything got the wire off, cant reach the plug

Ill try again tomorrow in the light maybe that will help

 

Remove this exhaust bracket. Then you can see the first bolt at the bottom and the second bolt is third one up

Any of used one of this fuse boxes, its open on the bottom side. I'm thinking of sealing it with silicon any other ideas ?

What if you just put a piece of flat rubber like a gasket, between that and what ever you attach it to. That way it's not all full of silicone

 

I thought about that but see how the sides are also exposed? Ive gotten water and some mud in my engine compartment before. Im thinking of putting it in a box of some sort ?

 

The plug was tough but I managed to unplug it with my hand from underneath. The lower bolt was easy, the upper bolt was aggravating but I got a 3/8 ratchet with a short socket in there.

 

I see what your saying. What if you just put little daps of silicon on the sides. Are you going to have each block filled?

Ok guys, The first thing I did to my first gen was buying it haha. Traded in my 2010 for a 04 4 banger with 70k on it and I love it. Night and day from the first gens to the second ones. I love it. Cant wait to mod it and lift it.

i just mounted my shovel and axe with some quick fist rubber clamps and conduit brackets,check my build. cheap and easy. doesnt look bad either! they say you can use them to mount hi lift but that sketches me out with all that weight.
