My truck doesn't have DRL's from the factory, and I prefer it that way. But if it did, I would have disabled them anyway since I have never liked them. One of my arguments against having them is if you are so unaware that you can't see a two ton vehicle hurtling at you, two lights on the front of said vehicle probably won't help in making it more visible. Taillights are different, they are a federal requirement. But even then you hear of people rear-ending vehicles and then they say "I didn't see him stop" or something else along those lines. Also, how can you be more liable if you are involved in a wreck and don't have / disabled the DRL's?

It will be a federal requirement. There isn't a question of if--it is a question of when and to what severity. I believe it will eventually be drls front and tail lights rear sometime down the road. It is just a good idea to have lights on all of the time.

I'm sorry, but that's just my opinion. If one likes them, that's fine, but I don't. So I made sure my truck didn't have them when I bought it. Two lights on the front of a vehicle won't help in the event of human error causing a wreck, but once again that's only my opinion.

Why not just say you don't like the look of them , instead of trying to make some justification that they won't help a vehicle be more visible

There can be no doubt that lighting in the front of a vehicle makes it more visible especially in low light or adverse conditions .

As you can never see the DRL's on your own truck when active , there can be no other reason for not wanting them other than vanity over the " looks " of them , so just call it like it is , lol

I wouldn't call the middle of a bright sunny day either low light or adverse. They're called Daytime Running Lights, not low light / adverse condition lights. I won't disagree with you in saying that lighting the front of a vehicle under those conditions is a good thing, but in the middle of the day I see them as unnecessary. I feel the same way about the TPMS system being rather unneeded, but that's just me. Once again, if you like them and feel that they help contribute to your safety in a vehicle, more power to you. I don't feel that I need them, so I purchased the truck without them.

You're only lowering the chances of other driver's seeing you rather than the other way around , but whatever

    correct.

far easier to see two tiny moving lights than a large truck that may be hidden
in the shade of a tree down the road, or blends into the background

DRL's save lives and reduce accidents... it is already proven

holy smokes i consider myself a careful driver [and award winning motorcycle
racer], so there is no reason to question my skills on pavement... but damn if
    30 or 40 times a summer, in mid-day, I barely see hard-to-spot and hard-to-judge-the-speed
cars and trucks all the time. mostly when the sun is high and the road is tree-lined, and lots of shadows...
a grey pavement-colored car, or a black one, a few tenths down the road, can be hard to spot at times

that, plus outright idiots who don't turn on any lights whatsoever until they are flashed by every other driver

I want to give others all the early warning possible that I am barreling through

I'm all for the DRL, I think it helps a lot.
Also when getting auto insurance they run the vin, when I was looking the 2012 I had them check the same truck, about the only difference was DRL and rims.
With out DRL and With cheaper rims was more.
And the color. so given those three things.

So I got the truck with the DRL and nice rims, pay less for insurance.

One other thing to think about. If a car or truck has a safety item built in and for some reason you remove or stop it from working, you could have some long range problems when you sell it, or if something happens when you drive it.

They can run the Vin, if it shows DRL and you hit someone, they show your were not working you are part to blame no mater what.
It happens all the time. I have seen it first hand.

It may be cool to not have them, just like people cover their lights with the black covers.... But you need to think about it in a legal way.

Some of you may not have been around long enough to know what I'm talking about.
    I'm sure some do....

Then turn on your headlights. I don't like to have decisions already made for me, I prefer to make them myself.

Well, then you have some justification in your standing. I stand by my argument that I feel they are unneeded, but if you feel otherwise that's fine. I didn't mean to start a pissing contest

you do know that a car/truck that has DTRL or head lights on during the day can been seen 2,000 feet farther than if it does not? i guess not. also if you are pulling out of a parking lot, and looking into the sun you may be able to see the lights when you other wise could not see the car/truck/van what ever.

why do you think all motorcycles have at least one head light on at all times! you can’t turn them off either! (some bikes like sport bikes have 2 head lights and one if all ways on, but you can turn both on at night. some just have one and they also have a setting for at night. so YES they can prevent a wreck!

I agree with OZ, try driving on a 2 lane highway in the Nevada or Arizona desert on a nice sunny day and those heat waves disort your vision from afar and the DRL do help seeing on coming vehicles. We have signs here that require DRL or headlights on during the day on the 2 lane highways.
Also my 13' I can turn on or off the DRL's

yeah we get that here as well. also even with a low, that we have to have head lights on in those conditions people don’t do it. even in the middle of the day. pisses me off, when i can see a car but 2 or 3 car length because it’s raining so hard. i wish they enforced the law more than they do.

    DDM doesn't know shit.

The 2nd Gen Tacoma DRLs are on the turn signals, not the headlights.

But please do not buy a "drop-in" HID kit... have some consideration for the other drivers on the road and do a proper projector retrofit. HID burners do not work properly (or legally) with the factory reflectors.
