they are only gonna get worse for ya paul. got a house now so that is another form for ya, then you might get married, so another form. then have a kid, another form. then you fart in public, another form. they only get more and more complex. i havent been able to file a 1040 ez ever...... when i did qualify they didnt exist. im sure since i have several finance and accounting classes under my belt i could do my own but that is money i will gladly pay for someone else to go cross eyed looking at forms.

Yeah. And when I get married it will be to someone still in school, but post grad. They'll probably say "Oh, you think you are going to get a nice deduction because they are in school? We gon tax dat too".

My predicted return is paltry in comparison to what I've paid in taxes over the year.

i always try to sit down with my accountant and plan out the year so i dont get much of a return, then it shows that you have gotten your money slowly throughout the year instead of giving it all away and asking the feds to please give it back in april.

Indeed, I don't understand why people get so happy about tax refunds... You're getting your own money back, guys.

I agree with what you guys are saying but this is the first time I am paying taxes with a full year of income. I had no idea how to set up all that stuff when I was right out school. Either way, taxes still suck and I would like to get back some of the ridiculous amount I paid.

well, you spoke of your soon to be wife being in school. wait til your in my shoes and going to school but unable to claim a tuition credit because you have been in school too long and you are only allowed to claim i think he said 5 times... then you just throw that chunk of change out of the equation. but the mortgage will help you out a great deal for your taxes and donate donate donate, thats all i can say old clothes old computers appliances whatever. just get a receipt and dont do it all at once. spread it out through the year. and oh yeah all you homeowners go big or stay home on renovations cuz you gotta break i think it was about $2k on receipts for it to change your return at all. donations add up quicker.

Shit, I got over 2k in paint in my house alone, not to mention almost 3k in a fence. Then again it was a foreclosure so I don't think that will help much.

never know, but i would def say its worth a shot for sure. worst that can happen is it doesnt help you any, then you just dont file it. not like it can hurt to try.

All this talk about taxes... on a lighter note...

If you're married, and gonna have kids, put that bun in the oven in feb-march, pop it out nov-dec, and claim that little bugger as daddy's little tax deduction for the whole year.

(lighter note, but seriously. do it...)
